Cherington actively working on additions

07:40 AM ET 01.22 | While Red Sox GM Ben Cherington didn't come out and say so, it seems Masahiro Tanaka may not be ticketed for Boston. Cherington indicated that he could still add a bullpen arm or two, an outfielder, or an infielder. That could be on a minor league deal. Dialogue with shortstop Stephen Drew has continued, but the sides appear no closer to coming to an agreement. Cherington reiterated that he is happy with the team as constituted, with Xander Bogaerts starting at shortstop and Jackie Bradley Jr. in center field. "I think it's likely we'll add to the roster," said the GM. "Whether it be in the form of a major league deal or a minor league deal remains to be seen. But confident that we'll add some players before spring training. We're actively working on that now."

They need a CF option if Bradley isn't ready, and/or a RF option (same person?) if Victorino's health issues continue.
Drew will probably come around as April gets closer, but maybe his agent has something else in mind?

Cherrington's no Theo, just ask Slinky. <flips quarter to Duquette>

He's only built one WS winning team; going for #2to match Theo.

QUOTE(#4):

I'll give Theo 1.5 at best (Duquette gets the other 1/2) and considering he couldn't go take a piss without Luchino's permission in his early years the .5 might be being too generous.

Agreed that Duquette left some minor league talent.
However, he didn't have the personality/management skills to hold the ML clubhouse together.
Theo, in spite of Luchino, did have the player's respect early on, which had a lot to do with the chemistry of the club that won his first WS.
I'd give Theo 1.75% of that title, Duquette gets .25%.

There was good comparison piece written by Alex Speier a few years back, comparing Duquette and Theo's track record drafting and developing teams ; http://m.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/alex-speier/2011/11/08/da n-duquettes-red-sox-draft-record-reconsidere

Net net, what did he say?

Theo never had to pull the team out of the abyss like Cherrington had to, and he did it to the tune of a WS championship to boot.
