BYU backup QB bolting Provo for SUU

07:47 AM ET 01.22 | As of this week, the backup QB job at BYU is up for grabs again. A BYU football spokesperson confirmed Tuesday that sophomore Ammon Olsen, who backed up starter Taysom Hill the entire 2013 season, is leaving the program. Olsen is transferring to Southern Utah University, which is where the former Alta High quarterback began his college career. SUU football spokesperson Neil Gardner confirmed Tuesday that Olsen has already enrolled at SUU and will participate in spring football for the Thunderbirds. Olsen transferred from SUU to BYU after an LDS Church mission to Mexico City in 2010-11. The 6-foot-3, 209-pounder is transferring because he wants the opportunity to play more, and with Hill the unquestioned starter the next two years, barring injury, prospects for doing that at BYU appear slim for Olsen.

You don't see this often, do you? 2x transfers do happen, but going back to a place you left? Even more rare.

When you see the writing on the wall and you've graduated....

Wonder how he would have done last year if he hadn't broken his foot.

I think much better than the alternatives

Still think he's better than Knight, but guess he and Thomas were both passing him up on depth chart

It is now. After a very quick glance early this morning, I thought I saw it as SMU, but I'm not a morning guy, so probably not SMU. It wasn't SUU, tho.

And what's with the hang-up with "bolting" w/FN mods. Everybody bolting nowadays. Bolting early for the nfl, bolting to another team.

Kid, there's a big world outside of Utah. Check it out sometime. Utah is not a place to spend your college years...or ANY years, for that matter.

I would take one year in Utah over a thousand in Florida and not even have to think about it.

Wow! Seriously?!

Have you actually spent any time in Florida? Our politics here are as screwy as it gets, and the weather can be brutal, but...UTAH? REALLY?

Not sure about Mammy....but if you are into outdoor sports like hunting/fishing/hiking/snow skiing/etc, Utah would be over Florida...IMO. Of course if you are into all that, there are better places than that as well.

But, living on the Gulf Coast myself, I kind of like it here better. :)

If the wall to wall women are family..I understand.

If the wall to wall women are the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders...you need to have your head examined.

LOL

If rocks and snow are your passion, then yeah, go to Utah...otherwise, not so much.

EWO, Utah is one of the most physically beautiful states I have seen in the lower 48. I lived in AZ for 3+ yrs and went up there many times. Skiing is the best in the country if you are in to that. Moab, Utah, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Natural Bridge National Park, Monument Valley just endless.
