07:40 AM ET 01.22 | The Ryan Express may be pulling into a different station in Texas. Astros owner Jim Crane plans to visit with Hall of Fame Nolan Ryan to gauge the Alvin legend's interest in working for the club again. Ryan, who played nine of his 27 seasons with the Astros and also served as a special assistant to former owner Drayton McLane from 2004 to 2008, resigned from his post as president of the Texas Rangers in October. "Actually I'm hoping to talk to Nolan here pretty soon," Crane said [Tuesday afternoon]. ... Ryan's eldest son Reid is currently the Astros' president of business operations, and there's no doubt the Texas baseball icon will always have a home at Minute Maid Park. "I don't think it's any great secret that I would love to have my dad work with the Houston Astros," Reid Ryan said.

.....good move for the pr-not-too-savvy astros....they need to trade texaas their choo-choo train....and get back their bronze statue of ryan....

Legends like Nolan and Larry Bird work in the background and seem to have a positive influence on their teams.....l without a lont of hoopla. Good move.

Definitely more than a pr move. Ryan has the baseball smarts as well as a great pitcher's mentor.

Ask Randy Johnson.
