Eagles shopping for safeties

07:27 AM ET 01.23 | Here we go again? If Chip Kelly drafts players the way he did last year, it wouldn't be bizarre if he selected Washington State safety Deone Bucannon in May's NFL draft. Three of the first four prospects the Eagles chose in Kelly's first draft played on college teams that beat Oregon when he was head coach, and all three performed well in those games. Although Bucannon's Cougars were run over by the Ducks, 51-26, in 2012, the safety stood out by intercepting Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota twice. There are 31 other teams drafting, so the odds of Kelly snatching Bucannon -- even if he likes him -- are long. But the Eagles are expected to give it another go at safety after years of failing to find impact players at the position.

Intercepting Marcus Mariota doesn't seem all that amazing to me

Come to think of it the Pats could use an impact safety as well.

Should be releasing Vick any day now.

What team isn't always looking for good safeties?

I can see the Raiders picking him up once he is released.

Take Geno Smith or Dan Orlovsky, put one behind center near their own end zone, and you'll get safeties galore.

Is he eligible for this years draft ?

January 23, 2014  02:44 PM ET

He doesn't have to worry about Ted Thompson who also desperately needs safeties because Ted loves those 5th round guys who are 5'10 and 180 with average speed who costs almost nothing to sign.

He is, but he chose not to enter the draft.

Funny thing about fast pace. It's not a secret. There's nothing to figure out.

It's about conditioning. The best game plan in the world isn't going to do you any good if you don't have the stamina to keep up.
