07:34 AM ET 01.23 | This time of year, off-the-field matters are all that keeps a baseball fan warm. Don't shoot the messenger. Last week, E! News reported that, although Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander and model Kate Upton were seen together at a hockey game two weekends ago in Philadelphia, they are not a couple. A source talking to Us Weekly begs to differ, apparently. Verlander and Upton "spent all weekend in the Bahamas together," according to the source, the weekend before New Years Eve last month: "We spotted them looking very cozy having dinner at the restaurant Mahogany House near Lyford Cay," says the eyewitness. Upton, who had her hair in a bun with a blue scarf, and Verlander, wearing a white button-down shirt, were "sitting on the same side of the table" for the romantic meal.

She gets a lot of hit-by-pitches. And she doesn't even have to crowd the plate.

Thank God. Better him than some sweaty Hollywood producer or New York stockbroker. It's good to see that at least some of our top Michigan talent is being utilized at home.
