Scherzer in pinstripes, too?

07:36 AM ET 01.23 | The Masahiro Tanaka speculation train finally pulled into a station -- in the Bronx. There were all sorts of wild rumors throughout the Tanaka derby (one incorrectly had the Cubs bidding $23 million to $25 million for eight years; that turned out to be dead wrong), but one rumor the Yankees hope is correct is that he is an ace. ... In any case, Tanaka doesn't have to be Kershaw, whose only true comp now is Koufax. But for this money, the Yankees are expecting at least a regular ol' No. 1 pitcher, if not an all-time great (though slimmed-down holdover star C.C. Sabathia surely still gets the ball on Opening Day). The Yankees may believe they have a real shot at Max Scherzer, who's a free agent after the year and reportedly wants to become a $30-million-per-year pitcher.

Boras must be salivating.

Not going to happen..... unless Nova and Pineda and Phelps completely bust.

God, I hope not.

Kershaw is actually a terrible comp for Koufax, who didn't really get it all together as a pitcher until he was about Clayton's present age.
The best comp I can think of for a lefty starter at Kershaw's age is Babe Ruth.

QUOTE(#6):

This time next year Kuroda will be a free agent, leaving them with Sabathia, Nova, Tanaka, maybe Pineda and a bunch of crap. You bet your butt it'll happen if they want it to.

Kuroda will also be 39 next season.
I was surprised that he's under .500 for his ML career.

Well, it is around breakfast time for him.

QUOTE(#10):

There really is no left handed NL pitcher to whom Kershaw would be a fair comparison. He's on a fresh plateau that could lead him to greatest in history status.

Kershaw is way ahead of Carlton at the same age.
WWII messed up Spahn and he didn't get going until he was 26.

He's been really unlucky when it comes to run support.

QUOTE(#9):

He's talked up pretty good but at the end of the day, he's average. I didn't think the Yankees needed to prioritize re-signing him. If they needed a guy to pitch half a season so bad, they could have gotten Jiminez for a few million less.

I disagree. He's better than average. His career ERA is 3.40 and career WHIP is 1.179. That's pretty darn good. The record is more lack of run support than any thing else.

Fixed.

And for non baseball news. Justin "The New Lindsey Lohan" Beiber was nailed for a DUI and street racing in Miami last night. Looks like the little dooosh may finally be held accountable for his a-holeness.
