07:30 AM ET 01.24 | Congratulations are in order for Kobe Bryant, though he's not ready to fully embrace them. Having only played in six of the Los Angeles Lakers' first 43 games this season, [Bryant] does not feel he is deserving of his starting All-Star bid and plans to sit out the Feb. 16 game in New Orleans. "With all due respect to the fans that voted me in, I certainly appreciate that, they know how much I appreciate that, but you got to do the right thing as well," Bryant said before the Lakers' 109-102 loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday night. "My fans know you got to reward these young guys for the work that they've been putting in." Bryant spoke to the media just minutes after the league announced the starters for the 63rd annual All-Star Game next month.

Smart Move, Bro.

All star game voting shows how little the fans know about basketball. Jeremy Lin got more votes than Lillard, Parker, and Westbrook. Really?

It's an online popularity contest. LA is a large media market and players there get a ot of attention. Same thing happened with Magic years ago. He got voted in when he wasn't playing.

Everything Kobe does gets blasted on the media and he gets attention all the time just doing the things other players do quietly every day. So Kobe stays on the mind of casual fans even when he isn't playing? I think we have had several Kobe threads just this week. Yet we haven't see a single Duncan thread all year and he made it to the Finals this year.

Stuff like this is why players crave the larger media markets.

Let it go. That's why they call it fan votes. It works both ways. Look at Kyrie Irving getting voted in. Is it because of the Cavs records or his leadership? No! It's about having the most fans.

Good for Kobe for not pulling a Yao, and volunteering to give his spot to someone more deserving. Kobe's my favorite player and all, but he's right, he doesn't belong in the ASG this year since he's played so little games.

For Blake to start over Aldridge really upset me.
Aldridge is an MVP candidate!
He's a top his division and it's gonna be tight for first in the west.

Classy move by Kobe.

Not really. He knows he is broken and can't play and would only embarrass himself.

He's just saying this to appear magnanimous. He knows his fans will act like he did something special when he really didn't.

Eh...It's not really that egregious. Blake is having a great year and has improved greatly. He is carrying the Clips, surprisingly, with CP3 down. His numbers aren't that far off from LA's either. Plus he is more exciting to watch play - which is what the All Star game is about anyway.

What? Kobe did something honorable or a class move? Not possible for some of the fans here.
Hey, there is always the rape card to bring back if things don't go well for them. LMAO

That's correct. The NBA should at least require that players in the starting lineup played in at least half of the games up until the break. They won't because it's all about the money.

And not much of a Laker fan. What's good for Kobe is good for Kobe fans...lol

Hail Kobe
