07:42 AM ET 01.24 | It's been a while in Calgary since anyone has thrown around the word "franchise" in relation to a player. The 'F' word I'm referring to is the one Calgary Flames head coach Bob Hartley used after Thursday's practice to sum up the rise of rookie centre Sean Monahan. "Mony is going to be a franchise player for us," Hartley said. "That's what I see in him, his demeanour. He's not flashy, but he's effective. There's no smoke, there's substance." .,. The Flames brain-trust is trying to keep expectations in check for the 19-year-old middle-man, but he keeps thrusting himself into the spotlight. Thanks to his first-period marker in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes, Monahan now leads the Flames with 14 goals so far this winter. He had 17 snipes by Jan. 24 of last season. However, it should be noted he was still a member of the [OHL's] Ottawa 67's back then.

I hope he ain't using the same "F" word he used in Vancouver during his polite chat with "Three Fingers."

Really? I'm not buying it. Burke could fall into a barrel of tits and come out sucking his thumb.

So far so good for the kid but Hartley should tone it down a bit putting the Franachise lable on him this early could go to his head.

He will try - but hopefully the ownership will see the light first. I don't see where the Flambays have been getting the 'regular' Burkie treatment from the League. No star players mysteriously coming their way, or ridiculously unbalanced reffing advantages - yet.

After he names himself the next GM he will F it up. In fact he will make Duhryl look like a genius.

Maybe that's what happened to all those #1 picks of the Oilers? Too much too soon?

The Cannots are yet to recover from his superb managerial skills.
