Pete Carroll: I blew chance to land Peyton Manning

09:12 AM ET 01.25 | Pete Carroll blamed his telephone skills for failing to land Peyton Manning two years ago. "He called me. That was a good start," the Seahawks coach recalled with a chuckle during his press conference on Friday. "From there, it just went downhill. I didn't do a very good job on the phone." Manning, instead, signed with the Broncos, while Seattle drafted quarterback Russell Wilson out of Wisconsin in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Clearly, it worked out for both sides -- Wilson and Manning will meet in Super Bowl XLVIII next Sunday at MetLife Stadium. "It's kind of interesting we're playing against him at this point," Carroll said. "We wound up with Russell and they wound up with Peyton. So, it's pretty cool."

He didn't want to play for you, Pete. He just wanted to know where to get Adderall cheap.

As much as I'd love to see Peyton match Eli's Lombardi Trophy tally, I'm starting to think it might not be the case...

I find that headline just a little disturbing.

January 25, 2014  09:50 AM ET

This is a bogus story.

Peyton had no interest in playing in the NFC. He and his brother like to limit their head-to-head matchups as much as possible.

January 25, 2014  09:51 AM ET

And the rest of the league is lucky. Because if Peyton Manning was on this Seahawks team, we'd be talking dynasty.

It's more fun with Eli having more.

You get the Eli(te) nonsense.

Peyton Manning took one look at our offensive line and figured he'd be safer elsewhere. Wilson's been getting two seconds to throw the ball, and he's mobile. Manning would have been retired and crippled by now if he'd come to Seattle.

So Pete Carroll opens his mouth and we find out about a little bit of undercover, back door attempts at landing a player.

Not that I could ever imagine Pete Carroll as doing anything nefarious [sarc] . But many people criticized Jim Harbaugh for flying to Indianapolis to try out Peyton Manning in a Hush-Hush tryout. After Manning had rejected the 49ers Manning and his agent still drove up the asking price for Manning by proclaiming the 49ers were willing to match the exaggerated offers made by Denver for Manning.

The last few games that Hawks line has been playing top 5 defenses. I wonder how much time the Broncos O line would have given 'Omaha Manning '?

I thought this was going to be about how Carroll tempted Manning as a High School recruit with Carroll and USC making offers of Homes, Cars, Money and free sexual favors provided by the young women at USC. That sounds more realistic than Manning wanting to go to Seattle.
