05:40 AM ET 02.25 | Former Panthers receiver Muhsin Muhammad, a free agent after being released by the Bears, would prefer to return to Charlotte, his agent said Sunday evening. Muhammad, a longtime Panther before signing with the Bears after a 93-reception, 16-touchdown 2004 season, will be 35 during the coming season. But he is the prototypical big, possession receiver that Carolina has been looking for to relieve the pressure on wideout Steve Smith.

The Panthers need to get Peppers back to his old self. But signing Muhammad would be an upgrade on the other side of Smith.

well...theoretically Delhomme would be there...but it's kinda hard for anyone to throw when your linemen let ever DT through...
Love to have MM back though...I don't think Colbert is going to go the distance.

Moose was hurt all but one year in Carolina...we should not sign him
again as he left us so good bye 4 ever.....ALSO he can catch some
crazy thrown balls, but drop the easy ones. Come On Panthers..you know
he's not right for us! Old and beat up does not work in the NFL.

He sucks. The Panthers can have him. 40 figgin' catches last year! He never can get open or create any separation. He's washed up beyond recognition.

Yeah, because God forbid we should actually let someone who was a wash up here go. Watch him drop pass after pass for a few games, and you'll see the light.

Chad Johnson, hearing of Muhammad's intentions, immediately called the Panthers and asked them forget Muhammad and acquire him in a trade.

lol man appearently yall havent looked at this man Muhammads body of work, check his stats they'll surprise you, although i agree his talents have deteriated carolina doesnt need him to have 100 catches they just need him to move the chains and as for only 40 catches last year... look at those terrible Qb's who through him the ball. what people dont realize is that this guy brings more than just catches and drops to the game, he brings a 6'2" in a half 215 lb frame and great blocking skills and leadership, if he is brought in he will be valued for helping the growth process of a young receiving corps that has underachieved... Dwayne Jarrett and Drew Carter will benefit from Muhammads knowledge of the game and as for Colbert ... where the hell has he been the last 3-4 seasons the man had a great rookie yr and hasnt done a darn since

Here's where I take issue with that statement: when a WR's primary "skill" is blocking, they're not a WR. They're a blocking TE. He's lost a step every year since he joined the Bears, and his 2004 season was a freak accident, the benefit of playing in no coverage opposite Steve Smith. .
I love Moose, he's a tough player, good values, family man, and Chicago was blessed to have him in its community. But as far as football goes, he's nowhere near the premier receiver the Bears paid him to be, and needed to be cut. I hope he does well in Carolina, but I'm not optimistic.
