George McPhee on hot seat in DC?

10:24 AM ET 01.26 | George McPhee might finally be feeling the heat. After 17 years on the job and being virtually untouchable, the blame for this season's struggles may land firmly on the shoulders of the Washington Capitals GM. While many will believe a McPhee firing only when they see it -- because everyone has heard this before -- league sources say he has been frantically calling rival GMs to see if he can make a deal to get his club back on track quickly. McPhee's contract is up at the end of the year, if the Caps don't make the playoffs or have a good showing, you have to wonder if he's going to be back because not many GMs have lame-duck status.

It's about time McPhee faced the music for the Caps lack of success. Bruce will have the last laugh after McPhee is shown the gate.

Now, this is the place (sorry Slappy) - other than the B-ruins of course, that Big Boy Burke is just 'dying' to be - President BB Burke told the Washington press corps today that Ovie is considering a change - to Ova. He said he knew there was a problem, when he saw the pink jock-strap with the Grecian urn motif.

By George! Caps ownership finally realizes team is past it's stale date.

I don't know. Ted Leonsis doesn't fire GMs. Ernie Grunfeld still survives with a far worse record in running the Wizards.

Yep. And he deserves to be on the hot seat. He's lost his edge.

If the Caps fail to make the playoffs - yes - Teddy will fire GMGM. If they squeak in, McPhee will get an extension and tell everyone Kustenov will be in camp next September

Maybe time to McFly, McPhee
