10:42 AM ET 01.26 | Sandy Alderson's latest one-liner poked fun at the Yankees signing Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka for $155 million (plus the $20 million posting fee), while the Mets brought back Daisuke Matsuzaka on a minor-league deal. "We each signed Japanese pitchers this week," Alderson said at Saturday's night's Baseball Writers' Association of America dinner at the New York Hilton, according to reports. "They're paying $155 million, and we're paying our guy month to month."

It would be awesome if Dice K turned out to be the best Japanese pitcher in New York for 2014.

This is why I hate Sandy. Everything is a joke. He keeps playing with the Mets fans emotions. Fans are desperate and he jokes. He said 1B and SS are priorities. He misplays the market and is stuck with the same 1B and SS he threw under the bus. Then he makes jokes. He signs a proven bum and he jokes. Between him and Wilpon lies, the organization is a joke.

Alderson has a good proven track record as an executive, especially building farm systems in Oakland and San Diego. So he makes a joke about not overspending. I'm sure he's working to build the Mets and be financially responsible. I don't know about Wilpon, but I think Alderson is a good guy to have in the organization.

A Proven Loser, his teams have lost more than they won Year to Year!

Um......Sandy? The only difference is your Japanese pitcher hasn't been good in 5 years and is showing no signs of bucking that trend. Your team and the Jets are the laughing stocks of New York in the sports you play in, and at least the Jets are SHOWING SIGNS of getting better. You'd be better served saving the humor for after you actually win something (anything). Until then, you just come off as pathetic.

Not exactly true. He did have a winning record while at Oakland (1983-97), including 4 division titles, 3 pennants and one WS. His record at SD (2005-09) was slightly below .500, but they did win 2 division titles. I would still maintain that's a pretty good record, especially when you consider these are both small market, low budget organizations.

It was just a lame attempt to be funny. I mean look at his picture. Does he look like someone who knows how to crack a joke?

The crew cut hides Alderson's humorous side.

The Mets are low budget and he's done nothing but lose!
