'Unconferenced' Pro Bowlers fear injuring teammates

10:49 AM ET 01.26 | The litany of "injury" scratches has been an issue for years, along with the quality of play and flagging fan support. But others consider the trip a reward and validation they've ascended among the NFL's elite. For outgoing NFLPA president Domonique Foxworth -- who had a seven-year NFL career as a cornerback but never made the Pro Bowl -- the greatest fear is the "unconferenced" reboot could lead to a player injuring his own NFL teammate with a hit. Players participating have voiced the same. "That's the only legitimate concern, and I completely understand it," Foxworth said. "I was faced with the possibility of canceling the game or trying to make it interesting. If some of these conflicts that we create make it so we can't go forward, then we'll throw the game out."

Put the stupid thing out of it's misery instead of torturing it to death!

Oh heck while they're mixing it up they should require players to play positions they don't normally play. WR's play defense, DB's play offense. Fat arse linemen play QB. Kickers return kicks. Stuff like that.

NOTHING will make this game more interesting.

Oh please let this be the last of it. Replace it with a pro bowl of cheer leading squads. In Hawaii, in bikinis doing routines. Lots of splits and stuff like that. Please, something a person would actually watch.

The NFL Pro Bowl has been a joke for years, and this latest effort to excite fan interest is silly.
Of course players will not risk injuring a teammate; there are enough injuries already (remember the Patriots HB many years ago who tore up his knee, I think on a beach touch game, and never recovered?)
It would be merciful to kill this event, it's a charade, who watches it, only true NFL junkies.

"Congratulations on making the Pro Bowl team, there's no game but we have a lovely coffee mug for you"!

Of all the dumb ideas to come out of Goodell's office, this pro bowl draft is the dumbest.

They got two HOFers that are completely unlike able on camera, then pretended like it was a drama waiting to happen if teammates faced each other on the field.

Kill it. Kill it now.

I will be shocked if this new format lasts more than this year.

January 26, 2014  11:22 AM ET

My fear is that I will be changing channels and will stumble on this "game" and stop to rubberneck like its a bloody wreck on I-35 between Dallas and Austin.

And a year's supply of Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco treat!

I'll stick with college BB today, thank you.

I'd rather watch those hotties from the lingerie league...

Is there REALLY a possibility of injury in this game?

Hurt feelings.
They know the best players skipped the Pro Bowl.

January 26, 2014  11:46 AM ET

whats amusing is that NFL owners have to force pre-season tickets on people because they know nobody wants to go yet they think those same people want to watch a game that really doesn't count.

That's one of the reasons why I gave up my season tickets. I hated to go to those games and nobody wants to buy them.

Maybe they should play flag football?

Not a bad idea; sort of try out the game the NFL will devolve to in the next decade due to concussion lawsuit liabilities.

Fortuitously, this is not an issue for the Steelers lone representative.

Not an issue for the Eagles four players either... none of them play defense.
