02:37 PM ET 01.26 | After competing with Jameis Winston for the starting job at Florida State last spring, quarterback Jacob Coker spent the season as the team's backup and eventually got his release to transfer. With Coker free to look at his options around the nation, the Alabama Crimson Tide emerged as a favorite to land the 6-foot-5 signal-caller. Coker visited Alabama this weekend and according to reports he will be staying in the state to join the Crimson Tide football team. With A.J. McCarron gone and Alabama's quarterback situation up in the air, Coker would be a perfect addition. He is set to graduate this spring, which means he will have two years of eligibility left and he is eligible to start playing this fall.

Way to get the scoop, FN.

Coker can play, period. He'll start right away at Bama, IMO. The Tide just picked up a very good QB.

He only picked the 2nd best team in the state of Alabama because Ricky Town de-committed and now he doesn't have to play back-up like he has his entire career.

I can think of other programs which would guarantee him the starting position.

If he'd chosen U$C, he'd be the starter there, as well.

Is this comment from Matt Cassell?

Of course. He's a man. He's 40! Ricky Town is waiting for his first pube still.

Only reason Coker was a backup at FSU is because he played behind EJ, a first-round pick, and Winston, a future first round pick.

Don't know if many people realize this, but it's been VERY difficult to crack the starting lineup at FSU, with regards to QB. Winston will be the THIRD Florida State starter, in a row, to go first round.

While the jury is still out on Manuel, I'm guessing that most folks in Minnesota aren't exactly bragging their pick of Christian Ponder in the first round.
