White Sox' unsettling closer approach

07:33 AM ET 01.27 | There is, apparently, no rush on the South Side. The White Sox have identified several pitchers to become their next closer, but might not name one until the season begins. With Addison Reed traded, the White Sox have yet to anoint a pitcher to take over in the ninth inning. Less than three weeks before pitchers and catchers report to camp, the strongest candidates to replace Reed are Nate Jones, Matt Lindstrom and rookie Daniel Webb. Jones would appear to be the favorite to close in 2014, but same as they did with Hector Santiago in 2012, the White Sox have no plans to name anyone for the foreseeable future. "Why should we bother giving (opponents) a week to prepare?" manager Robin Ventura said at SoxFest on Sunday.

Closer by committee is an option - work for the Cards several times....

I don't get the big deal about closers....... they have found statistically that the outs are just as important as any other out...... more pressure? Maybe - but most guys that can come into the 7th or 8th.... will do just as good in the 9th if left in there to show they can..... everybody has a settling in period....

Lets make the CHW thread the ToTD - it's been a while since the "normal" threads aren't here today.......

Watched the PRO Bowl last night.... it was actually entertaining with the new rules and team makeups... and the hitting was far better than expected. This format might just work..... it was fun to watch for a change.

Love Beltre's put on Fielder..... I hope he has lost a lot of weight..... if he's hitting 3rd in that lineup in Texas - he's going to be running a heck of a lot more.....

Santana would love pitching in COL..... <cough, cough, cough....>

I'm surprised that Jimenez and Santana aren't signed yet.... are they really asking so much?

Me neither - wife went backdown to be with her mother in the hospital after a setback.... she's doing o.k. but since Nancy doesn't work right now - she can better afford to spend the time with her.....

Plus since both of my parents are gone, and since she lost her father a couple of years ago, I think she needs to spend the extra time with her.....

Coming off a losing season in 13 and the forecast for 14 looks to be the same, so it really doesn't matter who is or who isn't the closer for the Sox.

Reading some of the posts from yesterdays Fielder thread, and it looks like the "best policy" is going off the deep end. He needs to learn to relax.
