Spartans nab WR commitment
Michigan State has secured a second recruit for its 2009 class, getting a verbal commitment on Saturday from Ypsilanti wide receiver Donald Spencer. Spencer, a 6-feet-2, 185-pound junior at Ypsilanti High, had 18 catches with eight touchdowns last season, averaging 19.1 yards per reception. He is expected to be one of the state's top high school receiving threats in fall 2008.

Riiiiiiiight. Hey, ask this guy if he had received a Michigan scholarship offer. He will answer "no". So, short of the fact that the kid is from our back yard, this isn't troubling at all.
Maybe they recruited this kid because he actually knows how to tell time and so doesn't need a countdown clock to tell him when to be ready for the game against us.

yeah it's the fact that they have the worst fans on the planet. Some guy yelling at you that your team "sucks," when in fact you are winning by 30.

Just another classless U of M fan; one who is a poor winner, and loser. By the way this kid had offers from MSU, Michigan, Penn State and Indiana already. Not only has MSU landed Spencer, but also Chris Norman a 4* recruit who is the top LB in the state. Rumor has it that MSU is also about to sign Edwin Baker, #1 RB in the state, 4*.

setyourselfup - stop reading ESPN for recruiting news and when you do, see only that HE had interest in those programs. There was no UofM offer for this guy. He was offered by MSU and Indiana ONLY.
And yes, they got a verbal commitment from Chris Norman. He was offered by Miami (Ohio), Toledo, Ohio, Purdue, Michigan State and Cincinnati. So be super happy that you pulled a MAC caliber linebacker with academic issues to East Lansing. Major victory there.
Love the classless shout-out, too. CLASSic.

Kraz, you have no clue what you are talking about. Rivals.com has Chris Norman with offers from...MSU, UM, PSU, Oregon, Purdue, Iowa, Illinois, and WVU..along with interest from Alabama and OSU. He is also considered a top 5 player in the state. Donald Spencer is one of only two WRs in the state with multiple Big Ten offers (Sims being a TE) and is considered even by the guys on the Michigan board to be one of the top 2 WRs and a top 10 players in the state. MSU has also received a commitment from Edwin Baker who holds offers from MSU, Michigan, Geogria, Purdue and Texas. He is considered to be either the 1st or 2nd best RB in a loaded RB class. That is two top 5 players in the state and 3 in the top ten. Will MSU ever match UM in recruiting? Most likely not, but they are doing a really good job early in state for 2009 and it is a shame that you act like Michigan never wanted any of these guys. You could have easily just said...good pick ups for the Spartans and went on with your day.

No, he only had offers from Indiana and MSU. College choices on rivals does not mean who offered him, it means schools he told rivals that he was considering. If you pay to rivals (or check for free on scout), you'll see that only Indiana and MSU actually offered him, even though he considered other schools that did not offer him. That doesn't mean that UofM hadn't been in contact, but UofM did NOT offer him.
Maybe he'll be a great WR, but maybe 18 catches isn't enough to tell. ONLY INDIANA AND MSU OFFERED HIM.... He made the right choice of those 2.

So MSU's WR had offers from Indiana and MSU, and MSU's OLB had offers from Purdue, Iowa, MSU, and Cincinnati.

Hey, MOST SCOOLS don't offer untill summer camp!!! So stop talking crap, about who did or didn't offer this kid! I'm sure most uofm fans wouldn't **** too much if he picked michigan.

Thanks moon.
sexton, that is true... for at least two of the three referenced.
Personally, I can't wait until the Michigan / Michigan State rivalry gets back to how it used to be. I mean, seriously, Wisconsin is almost a bigger game for us now than M / MSU. The most talked about aspect of the game is still Spartan Bob working the clock in 2001. So keep up the recruiting momentum. And since Lloyd Carr has left the state of Michigan wide open in terms of recruiting connections, all's wide open now. That's good.

This early in the game, I (UM alum/fan) would **** too much if he picked Michigan. He is at this time unrated, which probably means 2 or 3 star, with a possibiltiy of moving to a four star if he has a senior year that is much more productive than he has been to date. It may be that if he hadn't committed to Sparty, then Michigan would eventually have offered him, but he'd have to show something that he hasn't so far.

Sounds to me like the MSU Michigan rivalry means more to you than the Wisconsin game; you're sure getting worked up enough towards MSU.

I would also like to ask you where the h*** you're coming up with Chris Norman's academic issues? He doesn't have any, and it looks like you just signed a coach with "academic issues" in that he banged a WV cheerleader, impregnated her, went through multiple affairs, all while currently being married.

Actually on Rivals if you subscribe it shows a box for each school that is looking at the recruit. If the box is checked off that shows that the player has an offer from that school. If it is left unchecked then the school is just showing interest in the player. Every school I listed for the players above have offered. I have a subscription to rivals and am 100 percent positive that you have no clue what you are talking about.

Chris Norman had offers from Purdue, Cincinnati, MSU and Iowa. Donald Spencer had offers from Indiana and MSU. Both recruits are expected to have good years this upcoming fall. Spencer will be attending MSU's camp (I believe) this summer, he doesn't want to entertain any other offers (good sign of how he feels about MSU and their coaching staff). You guys also have Dion Sims (WR/TE) within your sights, along with Hersey Jackson (RB). Being that D'Antonio is cool with the sweater vest, I have a lot of respect for him and your team. Good Luck next year, except against the Bucks.
