07:37 AM ET 01.28 | Not so fast? It appears discussions about a multiyear deal for Justin Masterson have been shelved while the Indians and his agent, Randy Rowley, work toward a one-year deal with or without the arbitration process. Masterson's arbitration hearing is scheduled for Feb. 20 in St. Petersburg, Fla. There is a $3.75 million difference between what Masterson is seeking for the 2014 season and what the Indians have offered. It's the biggest difference among any unsigned player who filed for arbitration this winter. The 6-6, 250-pound Masterson filed at $11.8 million. The Indians countered at $8.05 million. ... Masterson led the Indians with 14 wins last season. The fact that he can be a free agent at the end of the upcoming season makes these negotiations, and any that could follow on a multiyear deal, more compelling.

Didn't some bimbo reporter cry when Masterson got traded away from Boston and he just totally blew her off? Am I thinking of the right guy? She got all teary eyed and said something like, "Boston is losing a great guy", and he just turned away with a "whatever" look on his face?

It can't be worse than the lady in NY that kept screaming Roger Clemens was in George Steinbrenner's box.

Na, he won't be a Yankee till Christmas.

Right now Masterson is the ace on your staff and since your team is seeking much needed pitching help it probably would be a good idea to try and sign him to a multiyear deal.

Masterson will win the Cy Young and then be traded like Sabathia and Lee before him.

The Tribe has done absoutely nothing in FA this year. Why would they get this done? Dolan spent all the money he got from the sale of Sports Time Ohio last year. He will go back to being the cheapskate we all know and hate. I hope you all enjoyed the "playoffs" last year because I don't think they'll even come close in 2014.

I'd bet the Indians will get closer to the playoffs in 2014 than the Cavs will.

Close being the operative word there. Horseshoes and field artillery...

the owners always screw up things with the free agents, but if the owners stop giving such big contracts
the players will fold and take whatever the teams offer, all in all not every free agent deserves a big contract neither a big deal why?because they only play fair when there is a free agent year after they get signed to a 6 or 7 years deal, suddenly the newly signed player becomes an unknown player, and who can we blame??the owners and organizations need to learn from theirpasst mistakes!!
