Firesale in Winnipeg?

07:44 AM ET 01.28 | On the upside in Winnipeg, the Jets have clearly turned things around under Paul Maurice, but it likely won't be enough to close the playoff gap. The Jets almost certainly won't be in a playoff position when the trade deadline arrives on March 4, which is just eight games from now. Winnipeg was eight points out of a wild-card spot heading into Sunday's action. So GM Kevin Cheveldayof will have to look into his crystal ball and guess about the future once again while determining if he should be a buyer or a seller. Count on the latter. Look for Olli Jokinen and Devin Setoguchi to be in play. Cheveldayoff may risk moving Stuart and then still try to re-sign him on July 1, but that's dangerous move if he wants the gamer back for next season.

Some sale. Two rentals, one a 35 year old centre who is clearly on the downside, and a 27 year old who is in his prime and is a 20 goal scorer. Meh.

Can't see either one netting them Ryan Miller.

To have a fire sale, you need some buyers. I just don't see that many GMs going after anybody from Winnipeg. St. John's, in the AHL is doing pretty good, so there might be a little hope for the future.

If Vancouver keeps tanking Winnipeg can get back in. It certainly seems they have a pulse under Maurice.

Poor Cannots! Even the hapless Oilers took a strip out of their hide last night!

Send Ladd and Kane to YVR. We'll send you your choice of Kassian Booth Weise

Hee, hee - As IF they want to break this team up; The Ducks - in Anaheim, Chicago in the Stadium, and they should have beaten SJ down there too! Ollie likes having Biff-Sockem and the **** as line-mates it seems (and vice-versus), think he pretty much realizes that two years is about the max, now - for about a mill less per. The Free Press has been a been a stumble - bummery since Scott Taylor left the Jets beat (when the Jets beat it to Phoenix) and David Thomson left the management team, when his dad sold it - yup, The third Baron of Fleet, himself.
