02:20 PM ET 01.28 | Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers, who has previously said that he is on the downside of his career, is set to count $18.183 million against the salary cap in 2014. With that cap figure, Peppers will likely need to restructure his deal or find himself released and on the open market. There is a good chance that the Bears will begin rebuilding their defense this offseason, so they could decide to go younger and leave Peppers on the outs.

With Jared Allen and DeMarcus Ware in the same boat, it may be a buyer's market. Restructuring may be his best option.

Peppers can only be useful to a win-now team - even with a restructure. The Pats qualify.

He'd better play at a much higher level than he did this season no matter what team he's with.
