Is Alabama becoming the Teflon Tide?

07:36 AM ET 01.29 | Even after a bowl loss, Alabama football is enjoying the momentum of a power program's offseason. Nick Saban signed a contract extension worth more than $7 million per year. The recruiting class is stocked with five stars. The Tide might have found a suitable replacement for A.J. McCarron in Jacob Coker, a transfer from FSU. But such prowess doesn't illustrate the whole story of Alabama football, at least not lately. You have to look to the compliance office for that. ... Alabama has experienced minimal pushback, which means either the school feels covered in its merits -- after asking around, Alabama sources seems less worried about these cases than, say, the Mark Ingram-Julio Jones fishing trip paid for by a businessman in 2009 -- or the NCAA simply isn't doing anything about this.

In Alabama, if someone brings any charges against the football team they will conveniently disappear.

Yeah, and Penn State was "clean" for all those years under Paterno.

The NCAA couldn't find hay in a horse barn.

Hey GR, your belly draggers are turning into a basketball school. Gonna be just like Kentucky before long, huh? Good hoops, bad football.

January 29, 2014  09:28 AM ET

Richardson, Fluckner, Jones, the list goes on they all got some $. The school knows it and will admit to it in due time just not now when they are on a high. Just ask USC you don't admit guilt till its to late and everyone is jumped ship.

Yep.

It's what we get for all those years of double-digit increases in the popularity and profitability of college football.

The NCAA can't/won't spot a violation south of the Mason Dixon line.

There seems to be some truth in that. The NCAA and all its part are a family and sometimes family prefers not to know everything about family members.

The fact that there is more money than ever before but fewer staff at the compliance office tells you all you need to know....don't kill that goose that lays the golden eggs.
