Sens about to get off the fence

07:38 AM ET 01.29 | At some point fairly soon, Senators GM Bryan Murray will have to make a decision. Now, Murray is waiting to see what players come available at what cost, but also what players on his own team might be of interest elsewhere. For example, blogs from Boston often refer to the Bruins' interest in veteran Senators defenceman Chris Phillips, with Bruins blue liner Dennis Seidenberg sidelined for the rest of the season with a blown knee. And yet, Murray has yet to receive a call from Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli expressing interest in Phillips. At the moment, Murray is still assessing his own club to determine if it is a playoff qualifier or a team looking to load up on draft picks for next season. "Do I add or subtract UFAs?" Murray said on Tuesday.

Addition by subtraction?

Find a UFA you think you can sign long term and go with him. At some point you're going to have to open up the check book anyway.

Only Calgary, Colorado, the Isles, and Florida have more cap space than the Sens.

Winnipeg has some bargains available. One fellow by the name of Olli comes to mind. ;-)

Oh please no!

Yeah but of those teams, only the Sens have an owner-mandated cap that is far lower than the others. Well, until they sign their broadcast agreement with TSN later today, at least.

Think they'll loosen up the purse strings now?

Do I add or subtract Bryan Murray, the owner wonders.
