07:11 AM ET 01.30 | Has kicking field goals come too close to automatic? Everyone and their barber has a new proposal, mostly involving the PAT, which some people want abolished completely. But some have also suggested tricking up field-goal kicking by narrowing the distance between the uprights. "I think eventually they're trying to take kicking out of the game completely," Broncos kicker Matt Prater told The Post Wednesday. "Last year they talked about taking out kickoffs. This year they're talking about getting rid of extra points, because they're made at such a high success rate, everyone takes them for takes them for granted. Kickers are getting better and better every year. They want to change some things so [the field goals] are more exciting plays."

What are you talking about? Most fans want the NFL to leave it be.

It's not like players are getting injured on PAT plays. What's the big deal?

The Extra Point is part of Football and should be left alone, even though it cost me 5K when the Giants beat The Broncos 39-20 in the Super Bowl and MISSED THE EXTRA POINT!!! I had 0-0 in a $50 Box

If you are going to change things in the kicking game, then start with the kickoff and move it back to the twenty and put the kick return back into the game, instead of touchbacks on almost every kickoff now.

He is looking out for his wallet. The less kicking is worth, the less they will get. Every kicker will have the same thought.

Now that hurts. I lost out on 500 on halftime a couple years ago when AZ didn't score a TD and James Harrison did.

The only thing I can see changing is narrowing the uprights. While they're at it, make the uprights taller. Been a lot of kicks going right over the top the last couple years.

Take away the "defenseless" designation on the kickers Leave the PATs and FGs alone.

Maybe we should change the name of the game while we're at it. Right now it's called FOOTball.

January 30, 2014  09:52 AM ET

Leave the game the way it is! Sure the PAT is automatic, but when one is missed, it usually has a major impact on the game. If you have to change something to make yourselves feel better, start by taking away the rules against the D such as jumping off another player or overloading one side of the ball. That way it at least forces the kicking team to be more efficient.

I had the Rams -11.5 in 1980. Couple of hunnerd on it.

Haven't bet with a bookie since.

That's exactly right. Make PATs 30 yards instead of 20 and you will significantly increase the odds of a miss. I like it. I'd hate to see kickers phased out. It's part of the game as we know and love it. (And while we're respecting kickers, let's see a few punters voted into the Hall.)

I think they should go the rugby route with regards to PATs... no more left hash, right hash.. you have to snap the ball based on where the player crossed the goal line.. you can go as far back as you want to get the right angle, but it makes it more difficult.

More teams would go for two if the resulting kick would be too difficult, and then anybody who draws the dreaded "8" in square boards has a chance!
