07:14 AM ET 01.30 | Can Anthony Davis, who keeps putting up impressive numbers in New Orleans, become the best player in the NBA by, say, 2016? It's definitely possible. He can impact a game in so many ways and he's so far ahead of the curve. Normally, it takes young big men a few years to get adjusted to the NBA game because it's more physical and they're facing much tougher competition than ever before. It's tough for a kid to match-up against men every night. Davis, on the other hand, is dominating and making it look easy. It's crazy to think that he's only 20 years old. By 2016, he could be scary good. It wouldn't surprise me if he's one of the best players in the NBA by then.

Didn't they say something like this about Kyrie Irving? Just let it happen. Don't go forecasting about the future. As of now he hasn't done enough to prove that he will dominate in 2 years. If his team was winning right now because of him than maybe we can at least think about it.

You sound ridiculous.

Kevin Garnett went YEARS without winning squat in Minnesota.....yet, because he had several seasons where he averaged 20-22ppg on lousy teams (someone had to score; right?), he was rewarded with All-star game appearances and an MVP.....and was called "dominant".

Davis has done a bit more in his first two years than Garnett did in his first two years; he11.....Garnett was in his fourth season before he put up stats comparable to Davis' second season.

Yeah, I'd say that under the circumstances, there is ample call to at LEAST discuss the possibilities as it pertains to Davis' future.

Hope Is Eternal, Bro.

I really do root for this kid.

Unibrow is too thin to be the top player. He has no game outside the paint.

Davis has done alot more in his first two years then Garnett did. I expect him to have a bigger impact on the game then Garnett ever did.

Davis is already pretty amazing and I won't be surprised if he gets an MVP eventually. But winning should be his main focus.

January 30, 2014  09:56 AM ET

When he was drafted I said he will have a KG impact but with better defense. That dude is too long wait until his jumper is improved. He is doing most of this without a real back to the basket game.

I say GOOOD! We have too many bigs that are jumper happy. Let this guy dominate the paint, and grab boards and block shots (ala Howard). Bulking up isn't THAT hard, his body will grow. And he can develop a jump shot over time. Karl Malone didn't have a J even after 6-7 years in the league, became a deadly weapon toward the end of his career.

Like the article says, the guy is ahead of schedule.

You obviously haven't watched the kid play..... The kid has a good jumper and outside game. It's his down low game that needs work. The kid is going to be a bonafide star come next season.

As of today his PER (Player Efficiency Rating) is 26.81 which is the 5th highest in the NBA this year. Only Durant, LBJ, CP3 and Love have a higher PER.

Yeah there is so much wrong with this post. Dude is long as heck his wing span makes up for any strength deficiency. He is a 20 10 guy and then add 3 blocks lol. I say he is doing pretty good. He catches lobs like Chandler effects shots like Ibaka, but he runs and moves like a SF. A jumper will make him pretty much unguardable and then you add his defense and it would be hard to say he wouldn't be the best PF in the NBA.

I disagree - too thin applies to in the paint and that is where he is flourishing. Outside the paint, thin is in.

exactly, down the road, I hope he gets a mid range jumper but I hate when Bigs start to leave the paint for 3's.

You just said Garnett had nobody around him. Davis has players and he could easily be winning more games if he was a lot more dominant. I'm not saying Davis is bad. I'm just saying that there should be some type of leadership and consistent dominance to prove that he could be the next Lebron or Durant. There's too much burden on him to say he would be the best player in 2 years. Lebron showed it in his first 2 years and Durant didn't really start showing it until his 2nd year. Right now you guys are overrating this kid and we're all assuming that he will surpass many great players in 2 years to be the best player.
