09:21 AM ET 02.01 | The Yankees were fretting that potential paperwork delays might keep Masahiro Tanaka from reporting to spring training on time on Feb. 14. And since the Japanese ace probably has enough adjustments to make in a new league and a new country without worrying about his visa application, the club called New York Senator Chuck Schumer to see if Sen. Schumer could help make sure the paperwork was done properly. "My office works tirelessly to help constituents every single day, but it's not often you get a call from a constituent like the New York Yankees," Schumer said.

QUOTE(#1):

I still say that Tanaka signed in New York to avoid the Seattle media. Hell, when Ichiro played there, he was treated for depression a couple of times. My Yankees will be fine, folks. The infield is set, the offense will lead MLB in runs, and the bullpen will be awesome. Best of all is the rotation, which is far superior to Boston's and St. Louis's.World Series champions 2014. I guarantee.

Out baiting the traps early this morning?

Schumer could have done the 60-70% of his constituents who are not Yankee fans a favor by not responding to that call.
