10:20 AM ET 02.01 | Roger Goodell continued his recent press to expand the playoff field by one team per conference while shortening the preseason, though that would have to be approved by a majority vote of the owners and likely require the NFL Players Association to sign off on it. "We are looking at the idea of expanding that by two teams to 14," Goodell said. "There's a lot of benefits to doing that. We think we can make the league more competitive. We think we can make the matchups more competitive towards the end of the season. There will be more excitement, more memorable moments for our fans. That's something that attracts us. We think we can do it properly from a competitive standpoint. This will continue to get very serious consideration.?"

And JJ wants it.

You would have to get 16 teams in for JJ to participate.

"There's a lot of benefits to doing that"

Loosely translated.....We can squeeze a few million more bucks out of this dog before it dies.

You think these owners own teams for the fun of it? Of course it's about generating revenue. Nothing wrong with that, unless you think socialism is a good route.

That would make the Dallas 8 & 8's a mathematical possibility!!!!

Way to lobby JJ. Ever think of just trying to improve instead of dragging the rest of the league down to your level?

Having said that, I guess if JJ can drag his sorry team to one playoff game, he get's more $$$$$$!!

I guess that's what it's all about.

Still needs a home playoff game to make extra $$$.

On the bright side, Dallas has lost to all the NFC East teams the last three years on the final weekend. They're out of NFC East teams to lose to on that final Sunday night.

No! Why break what isn't broken?

February 1, 2014  11:30 AM ET

Are they heading to two seasons?

February 1, 2014  11:50 AM ET

Blah, blah ,blah, ...that's all I hear when Goodell speaks....

February 1, 2014  12:10 PM ET

" EXPAND THE PLAYOFF FIELD " ? OH for a second there I though Goodell was suggesting that they were going to change the dimensions to 120 X 50 yards.

Exactly, When the NFL expands to 40 franchises then they can increase the number of seasonal games and playoff games.

Why can't she be may next door neighbor?

February 1, 2014  04:21 PM ET

Foolish but the NFL is about money. Nascar ruined itself and is on a downward spiral due to adding more races, longer boring races, trying to make the sport what it isn't and a foolish chase of 10 races noone understands but it does interfer with one speding the bucks on football tickets.
The NFl wants to get into the baseball season start.

More 8-8 teams in the playoffs. Hurray?

They should just change the extra point rule and leave it at that. No need for a March Super Bowl. Although that would make for better conditions when Green Bay is granted one.

If they truly want better quality games, better competition, then couple the expanded playoffs with a reduction in regular season games, say to 14. But of course, that would mean less money and won't be done, which means the expanded playoffs are really about more $$, not better competition.

I'd rather take Genevieve Morton. Of course she'd reject me, but still.
