Signing Day: Who will finish second?

07:33 AM ET 02.04 | When it comes to the recruiting game, the Tide rolls. It is almost a certainty that Alabama will claim the No. 1 spot in the final team rankings once National Signing Day is complete. The Crimson Tide have been a recruiting machine under Nick Saban. ... With 'Bama set to assume the top ranking, the battle for the remaining four spots in the top five will be interesting. How strong will Florida State close following the Seminoles' BCS national championship win? Kevin Sumlin has a loaded class this cycle at Texas A&M and could finish No. 2. Defensive line coach Terry Price did a fantastic job of addressing the team's porous D-Line, and end Myles Garrett was arguably the best player in Texas this past season. Finally, keep an eye on Florida and Miami (FL), which had a big final hosting weekend.

I just love how my twitter feed blows up now and on draft day by all the writers and pundits on these recruiting sites trying to proved their worth saying "80% of first rounders were 4 or 5*"...

Guess what, 80% of first rounders were also the kings of peewee football

Yeah, and look what Seattle did ... built a shut down defense with 4th-7th round picks.

Recruiting services are in the business of selling subscriptions. They aggressively promote their product because they're in a growth segment. Their evaluations come very early in a player's developmental cycle (for most players) and are not entirely data-driven. Basically it's junk science.

Having the #1 recruiting class doesn't mean squat.

It's not where you start that matters...it's where you FINISH.

Thanks Gariboy. It wasn't easy against Auburn, but we found a way. CLOSE game, but we'll take a close win and be very happy with it. :-)

Not gonna lie, I hope he does go to USC. Not interested in seeing him for 3 or 4 years catching interceptions from UTK QB's.

Hmmm... That seems to contradict all other experts and the facts. Can you please explain? Historically the teams that DO finish towards the top of the recruiting rankings DO have better teams. Is your statement based on any fact or is just another goofy attempt to take a jab at Bama who has been in the top 3 in recruiting for the last 6 years and oh by the way has won 3 of the last 5 NCGs. Now do me a favor go back to the kitchen and make me a sammy!
