07:34 AM ET 02.04 | The King will travel light. [Henrik Lundqvist] has concerns over security in Sochi, but that's not the only reason the royal family won't be accompanying the King to the Olympics. "It is a few different things," Lundqvist told Slap Shots. ... "Security is one of them, but I don't know how things are going to be set up for families over there. So I'm not going to have anyone there with me. I think it is better that way." The NHLPA has not issued any broad-based advisories to its membership, and there is no unanimity on the matter, but several agents and players have said the union, citing a lack of suitable hotels and accommodations outside of the Olympic compound where the players will be housed, is recommending families don't make the trip.

I'm sure any decent accommodations have been scooped up by the IOC and other "officials".

One very unofficial translation:

"I need my alone time, away from the ball and chain. Everyone knows Russia is where all the best pole dancers come from."

All I can say is those Sochi organizers must have slipped the IOC a bundle of coin in order to get the games.

Yeah i'm guessing a lot of the boys are using this whole security mess as a reason to leave the wives at home and scoop up some quality Russian telochki.

Hockey players, at least the ones I've known, tend to have the morals of a stray dog. So I can see why they'd like to leave the wife and kids behind.

"Why Lundqvist won't bring family to Sochi"

Because .... he's smart? He knows it can be extremely hazardous to his health (and wallet) to attempt to sample some Natashas with wife and family tagging along.

Has anyone else seen any of the currently running documentary about Mike Keenan and his coaching job in Russia ? Quite fascinating stuff. The"executive" apartment building Mike and many of his Players live in looks like an AHL Teams boarding house.

Listening to a news talk show on the drive home. They were talking about the Sochi hotels not being ready. The Russians actually blamed it on Westerners who want, get this, sprinkler systems, elevators and toilets in the rooms! How freakin' unreasonable we are!!!!!
