Callahan's demands are too rich for the Rangers

07:37 AM ET 02.04 | Fairly quickly, Rangers captain Ryan Callahan, a New York native who was drafted by the club in the fourth round of the 2004 draft, seems to have landed on the trading block, something that caught a number of hockey insiders off guard. Darren Dreger: He wants a lot of money. It's been widely reported that Callahan is looking for a seven-year term around $6 million per year. That is not accurate. I'm told that it is more than $6.5 million but less than $7 million per year on a seven-year term. Whether it's $6 million per year or, as we know now, closer to $7 million, that's a lot of money; too much for the Rangers. There's not a lot of wiggle room in this negotiation and that's why Glen Sather is considering and working towards moving his captain.

Hell - the trade talk has been going on for more than a week. Insiders caught off-guard must have been drunk or fishing or both.

In fairness, the TSN insiders have been busy with crop circles, UFOs, and most recently, seeking Atlantis.

I strongly suggest he finds an agent who isn't huffing glue.

Or hire Clarkson's. :)

bingo!

Clarkson is the measuring stick for Cally; notice how he doesnt want 6 mil (same as Clarky) he wants 6.5 mil.

But for real, the Leafs actually paid less to Clarkson than other offers he had on the table (so, Edmonton and maybe one other lunatic franchise, but still). Does anybody actually look at Callahan and say "Phaneuf money!"? (shoot me)

Again I think I said this begin's of year when Steppan held out; start flipping these UFA's......Sather has painted himself in a box. If I am Cally I am laughing all the way to the Oly's.....he is cashing in come 7/1/14.

Just for fun......

You're welcome Pittsburghers.

I get intangibles and paying more for them, but this is crazy talk. Yea he is the captain of the RANGERS, but give me a break. The guy has 9 goals this year and only has 250 pts in 444 games. This guys should be making 4 mill per max and I think that is generous.

Drunk and fishing never require the word "or" in a sentence Otis
