Texas in the mix for Wittek

07:38 AM ET 02.06 | Charlie Strong, fresh off his first signing day in Austin, may have a decent shot at former USC quarterback Max Wittek. [Wittek], who last week told the Trojans he intends to transfer, has multiple options, including Texas, Louisville and Hawaii, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad. Wittek plans to graduate in the spring and has two years of eligibility left. He would be able to play immediately because of an NCAA rule that allows graduates the freedom to transfer without losing a year of eligibility. "I had talked to coach [Steve Sarkisian] a couple of times," Wittek told the Los Angeles Times. ... Wittek was locked in a quarterback competition with Cody Kessler last spring for the right to replace Matt Barkley. That competition eventually spilled into the 2013 regular season.

Wait a minute, the mighty U of Texas-Austin is bellying up for sloppy seconds?

Yawn..... I just do not think he is that good...

I watched him early in the year and was less than impressed for sure. Is he better than Ash?

Then he should fit in nicely. The rusty cows has had a series of "not very good" quarterbacks for a few years.

Come to think of it, they've had a series of "not very good" players at several positions for a while....even if Rivals, 24/7 etal did rank the classes highly.

definitely not, but would be a good backup

No definitely not.

Wittek = Case McCoy ... high floor/low ceiling. He'll be in the way of Swopes' development, much like McCoy was last year. Swopes has much more upside than Wittek.

Wittek was a highly-recruited QB and he wants to start somewhere. UTx needs a backup not a washout who thinks he can start. Don't want him taking reps from Swopes.

I do not see why the shorthorns would even bring him in then if they are sure that Sowpes is the answer?

One of the dumbest things I have ever read.

Aren't most QBs better than Ash?

The reason is QB depth. Ours is thin thanks to poor recruiting and retention at the position.

Ash is the starter ... but is he REALLY over the concussion issues?
Swopes is the backup who desperately needs reps.
J. Heard needs to redshirt.

We need a 3rd QB to back up the backup and not burn a shirt.

You should go over to TexAgs. This is Pulitzer Prize stuff compared to what you'll find there.

I wish I had more time in the day to lurk on TexAgs and ShaggyBevo

Doc's too optimistic on Swoopes

If the O was option attack, he'd be great, but hasn't shown the accuracy needed for D1 throwing the ball. Think of a much faster, better running Bell

No.

Ash, when healthy, is a national top 20 QB. Strong accurate arm, very effective runner.

Their dream world has become disgustingly stomach turning. I would rather get my testicles caught in an industrial tortilla press than converse with any of them right now. They honestly believe they are better than the Sooners even though then have only won ONE time in the last ELEVEN tries..... I think it may be due to the lack of wifi for information and the fumes from all the outdoor plumbing in stoolwater!
