07:27 AM ET 02.06 | During a time when most of the league takes a break, All-Star guard Damian Lillard may become the hardest working man in game. [Lillard] has accepted the league's invitation to participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, a league source informed CSNNW.com. ... It doesn't stop there, however. The NBA has broached Lillard with an attractive, unprecedented opportunity. They've asked him to consider the Three-Point Shooting Contest as well, another source relayed to CSNNW.com. So far, the reigning Rookie of the Year is committed to defending his Skills Challenge title; he's competing in the Dunk Contest, the Rising Stars Challenge and the All-Star game. No player in the history of the game has ever competed in all five All-Star Weekend events in the same weekend.

Uh ok....

LOL NBA really wants his ego inflated by the time his rookie contracts up so he can give larger market teams the help they need at PG.

February 6, 2014  08:45 AM ET

I'd say Mr Lillard might be the best PG in the league right now.

If I was the Blazers GM or coach than I would say to cut down on some of those events. The kid is gonna come back feeling drained and that's not good for the Blazers. This 2nd half of the season is what counts the most.

I don't know about the best, but he can surely be considered as one of the "clutch" PGs right now. Doesn't get flustered to take the last shot!

0 for 3

Kind of like how they showcased Kyrie last year. Yeah that turned out great for him this year.

Definitely in the top 3-5. Only CP3, Westbrook, Curry and maybe Lowry are better.

Let these guys prove something in the playoffs before considering them top 5.

Amen.

Of the pgs who aren't currently on the shelf or mending from being on the shelf (CP3, Rondo, Rose, Westbrook), I wouldn't take him over Steph Curry, Tony Parker. He is right there in the Conley, Dragic, Wall group.

February 6, 2014  11:19 AM ET

Tony Parker is still bringing it - Top 5 easy

Seriously?

It was only a few years ago that this 23 year-old kid was playing 5 or 6 competitive games in a different city almost every weekend during the summer.....as well as fall HS ball, as well as regular season HS ball. And God only knows how much street ballin' he was doing outside of his regular college season.

One weekend of fun and game ain't gonna drain him for the rest of the season. If he needs any time at all to recover, it'll take him a day.....maybe two......

February 6, 2014  11:53 AM ET

This all well and good, but what happens when the Playoffs come around and he's burned out? Not to mention the fact, what happens if he gets injured? This might be ok if the Blazers weren't one of the better teams this year. Lillard has nothing to prove and I hope all works out well. But I find stranger than his decision to play, or the league's decision to ask, is Portland allow this to happen with a player that is so valuable to their contending for the Championship.

Poor example from Damiens history.
Last year he logged more minutes then any other rookie and in the top 10 for his position.
Considering all he has to do is shoot, dunk and dribble 3 days in a row it's not a big deal. I'd expect the ASG coaches to lessen his minutes accordingly either way. Professional courtesy.

Exactly! There are 82 games not counting the playoffs. Lillard has been leading his team in minutes played. That's not a good thing going into the playoffs. It may be just a 3 day weekend but there are a lot of things going on and he will be pulled in many places. Because of all these events he is joining, he won't get that much rest. Don't forget all the parties that he has to attend... That Retired Army guy sure don't know what's going on. He thinks it will be that easy and stress free.
