07:28 AM ET 02.06 | The NBA's new commissioner, Adam Silver, may have some old-school good news for the league's signature midseason event. [According to] some loud rumbles in circulation Wednesday night, some rather big names will be in the field of six dunkers in New Orleans. How big? I'm told Eastern Conference All-Stars Paul George and John Wall along with defending champion Terrence Ross -- fresh off Ross' unforgettable detonation on Denver's Kenneth Faried -- are all committing to join Western Conference All-Star Damian Lillard in the dunk field. Which doesn't sound too shabby. Can multiple names from the NBA elite actually save the long-suffering dunk contest? Can the NBA dunk contest actually be saved at this point? This much we do know: You're going to feel a much stronger pull to tune in to watch.

The dunk contest should have been eliminated long ago. The best players are not interested in risking an injury for something so trivial and the risk is great.

Instead of the dunk contest, they should have a east vs west cheerleaders shootout. You want TV ratings? Beat that!!

Just like no one wants to watch the home run derby when the elusive "most home runs in the derby" is no where close to being beat, no one wants to see a guy dunk the ball in hopes of getting a subjective "50 points". Boring.

What makes for an exciting dunk? Dunking over a defensive guy with authority.

I don't like the new format, east vs west? & the scoring system is going 2 suck. I feel if u could get a 10 from dr. J you've already won.
