07:43 AM ET 02.06 | After hoping for the past few weeks, Team Canada learned Wednesday that it will be without the services of Lightning forward Steven Stamkos. [Stamkos] will not make the trip to the Sochi Olympics to represent Canada, potentially opening a spot for Flyers captain Claude Giroux. Stamkos has not been cleared to return. ... Giroux reiterated on Wednesday that he was "disappointed" by the decision but that he had moved past the snub. "I'm not going. I've kind of put that behind me," Giroux said. However, Giroux made that comment before the Stamkos news broke. When asked if he had his eye on what would happen in Tampa Bay, Giroux said he had "no control over it." The top candidates to replace Stamkos are Giroux, Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis, Pittsburgh's James Neal, and Carolina's Eric Staal.

Not that he has any right to it, but Martin St Louis is as deserving as any of the candidates. I can't imagine anyone having a huge argument if St Louis is chosen. Yzerman would really have to have a pair of big brass ones to not pick him under the circumstances.

St Louis is the front runner I would think with Giroux a close second...the other two not in the running

Any guess which CDN born player has the most points since the Oly team was announced?

You will not believe it. And it is not Giroux or Marty

He already agreed to look after his uncle's shawarma stand during the break.

Does he get to rock one of those cool vests?

Agree with St. Louis, but any of those mentioned will be a good addition.

Actually quite delicious when done right.

On a different note the guy on the radio Wed. said he was eating trail mix and spit out a cocoon. Nice.

Now we just need Nash and Bouwmeester to break something to get E. Staal and Seabrook on the team, and have some chance at making the semi-finals. Team US should get DB to stick out his ugly leg and remove one of his present (lesser/wimpyer) team-mates so they can draft Biff-sockem in to play RWing - then they might stand half a chance, too.
