07:23 AM ET 02.07 | Matt Ryan may have slipped from his 2012 form, but he did endure some extenuating circumstances. Injuries decimated his receiving corps. The Atlanta Falcons' offensive line ranked in the NFL's bottom third, according to both Football Outsiders and Pro Football Focus. Excuses aside, Ryan couldn't pull his team out of a season-long tailspin as other members of the NFL's quarterback royalty have done. Recently retired tight end Tony Gonzalez acknowledged as much in an interview with ESPN The Magazinethis close. He'll get there, but he has some learning to do." Elite quarterbacks are the best players on their team's roster. That's not the case with the Falcons.

February 7, 2014  09:11 AM ET

In every major sport there are individuals on teams at various times in their careers had a bad moment during s specific year that look like he cost his team a chance to get into the playoffs or win a championship and sometime these same individuals end up in the Hall of Fame in their sport and that is the reason it is call a team game not a individual game.

Matty Ice hasn't lived up to the hype.

This is a non-story, an attempt to create controversy based on the facts. Taking a quote and then inferring a deeper issue than there actually is.

Ryan wasn't good the last two seasons, I think he would admit that.

He hasn't earned the nickname Matty Ice.

It doesn't sound like Gonzalez is ripping on him, just that he has a way to go to be elite . I really don't care to bother to read the whole article.
