07:27 AM ET 02.07 | Is there fire surrounding the smoke? The question was posed Thursday on ESPNDallas.com and is starting to be asked with regularity in Big D by restless fans of the Dallas Mavericks: Could the Mavs make a legitimate play for Milwaukee Bucks big man Larry Sanders before the Feb. 20 trade deadline? The answer, for now, appears to be no. Sources briefed on the situation told ESPN.com that teams asking whether the defensive specialist has fallen far enough out of favor with his frustrated bosses to be made available are being turned away. For now. Even after the steady stream of Sanders missteps almost from the moment he came to terms on a four-year, $44 million extension in August, sources say that the Bucks don't seem to think they can afford to trade the 25-year-old this month.

Yes please!!!!

What do they mean they can't afford to trade Sanders? The team is going nowhere. I don't see what Dallas have that they would want.

Sanders for Dirk?

Sanders is way overrated and overpaid. The guy got paid but hasn't shown anything to prove his worth. This will be another Dampier mistake if they do trade for him.

Larry Sanders is better than Dampier.

February 7, 2014  11:32 AM ET

That would be great. Send them back Dalembert, Blair, or B. Wright.

he is not worth the crap he is producing. The guy has no offense and is thin that can be killed by other bulkier centers or PF. What's his production w/ the Bucks right now? Why commit to a player that is maxed out and has many years to go w/ that max contract?

Not worth it. Wright is better than him at a much cheaper price.

The is no way B. Wright is better that L. Sanders. I like Wright as much as the next guy, but he couldn't guard his way out of a paper bag. Sanders is a legitimate shot blocker and rebounder. He's stronger, more durable, and younger than Tyson Chandler.

I like his hustle on defense, but Sanders needs to bulk up and rebound better.

He is overpaid stats are a little down this year. I will see where he is at the end of the season, right now he is averaging a double double so it isn't all that bad. My point is what would Dallas have that the Bucks would want. Maybe Dalembert and some future first picks. He can have a Chandler effect on the right team.

They can give expiring contracts.....
