MSU-McDowell family saga continues (with options)

07:35 AM ET 02.07 | Malik McDowell finds himself in some awkward territory. If [McDowell's] father supports his son's decision to play at Michigan State, the addition of McDowell to the 2014 MSU recruiting class can be official right now if he chooses -- even without a signed national letter of intent. And if McDowell has no parental approval, but still wants to play for the Spartans, he can enroll and sign with MSU after one day of fall semester classes. Nothing had changed in the McDowell saga as of Thursday afternoon. ... McDowell's mother, Joya Crowe, reportedly has sole custody of him, which means she is the parent who must sign the national letter of intent. However, a Big Ten tender only requires the signature of a parent. There is no language about a "custodial parent," Smith said.

This year's Terrelle Pryor, Lache Seastrunk, or your favorite drama queen.

I disagree....TP set up several pressers only to say "I'll let you know later." This kid wants to go to MSU, but momma has put her foot down. I hope things work out for this kid.....and at this point, going to FSU to get away from momma may not be bad thing.

The kid is handling this like an adult. His dad thinks that momma will sign by Monday, or possible over the week-end. It's unfortunate that she chose to make this a public spectacle, however, she does have the right to be a part of her son's decision. Everyone needs to back off and let them figure out what's best for Malik.

You know I am pounding on you cuz he spurned us. I hope he works our for you. I watched film the kid will make an impact. Yes it is a dumb family drama playing out in public.

On another note, you know when he announced Sparty you lost another DE who was gonna go your way but flipped to us, Darius Slade from NJ. It will be fun to see how this plays out.

We recruited Slade all year long (maybe longer, but he definitely was on the board early last year). I don't know all the particulars, but apparantly he is real close to a forme Penn State player and his family, and they had been telling Slade that Larry Johnson is the greatest D-line coach in the world. I guess that started the ball rolling and when MSU got to their internal targets on scholarships, the pulled the offer when the kid said he wanted to take another week.

Any truth to the rumors that Mamma got a job recently in FL, with help from a certain school?

There seems to be a rash of parents refusing to sign LOIs this year. Adoree Jackson and a few others.

The story is momma had a bad experience at MSU....any idea what that might have been?

Penn State was doing the same thing with Holley regarding Larry Johnson. Once Johnson left UF picked him up.

Don't know about that, but she does have family in Florida, and is willing to move there if Malik signs with FSU.

I've heard a couple of different things about this: 1. during the official visit, her negative attitude and comments pizzzzzed off a number of other recruits and their parents, and apparantly words were exchanged; 2. she claims that she overheard MSU players assuring Malik that they don't have to go to class.
Not sure if either is true, but both of those are floating around.

I have to drive to LA to take the test for him. The trick is getting just a 2 point improvement.
