05:15 PM ET 02.07 | Reports have surfaced that former Illinois Fighting Illini head coach Ron Zook has agreed to join Mike McCarthy with the Green Bay Packers. Zook has six years of previous NFL coaching experience, with the Pittsburgh Steelers (special teams coach), Kansas City Chiefs (secondary coach) and New Orleans Saints (defensive coordinator). During his time as the defensive coordinator in New Orleans, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy served as the offensive coordinator, so the two began building a close working relationship back in 2000.

Zook's like he's The Man!!!

He's most famous for flopping at UFlorida with Spurrier's top recruiting class.

The Pack's D can go nowhere but up. Last year it hit rock bottom and began to dig. They kept Capers, so I assume this is a positive hire.

Yep. I believe all but one of his losses were against ranked opponents, but definitely not good enough for the Gators. The Fire Zook chants came early and often.

It's hard to follow a legend even if that legend is a ****. Spurier's classless taunting and jabs at other coaches in the media turned winning into fanbase arrogance. Zook didn't live up to many of what Florida and SEC fans came to expect from Spurrier.

I thought zook's strength was recruiting. It's certainly not coaching.

The Fighting Illini's loss is the Packer's gain ... Go Pack!

is this because Kevin Greene has retired?

THE loss was to unranked cellar dweller Mississippi State at Starkville. Was fired the next morning. But he is in good company. Spurrier never won in Starkville.
