09:54 AM ET 02.08 | The U.S. Olympic men's hockey team will play the Russians on Feb. 15 in Sochi, Russia. Coach Herb Brooks' 1980 U.S. team, en route to its storybook gold medal, defeated the Soviet Union 4-3 on Feb. 22 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Brooks' son, Danny, was 12 years old at the time. "I saved my ticket stub from that game," Danny said Thursday. "I've got all my ticket stubs from every one of those games, plus the Opening Ceremony. I had them taped on my bedroom wall for five years." Today, those ticket stubs are framed and on a wall in Brooks' wealth management office in downtown Minneapolis. His famous father, a St. Paul native and former Gophers coach, died 10 1/2 years ago at age 66 in an automobile accident. "I remember that game (against the Soviets), where I was, what was going through my mind during each goal," Danny said. "I remember as the clock ticked down to zero, I said to myself, 'I'm going to look at my dad, watch what he does.' "I was on the other side of the arena and focusing on my dad behind the bench. I remember when the clock hit zero, he literally just jumped in the air. Then I watched him walk away from the bench and down the hallway. It was like yesterday."
