10:13 AM ET 02.09 | The Lakers were open to trading Pau Gasol until they couldn't pry one of Phoenix's top draft picks for this June away from the Suns. Phoenix could be getting No. 1 picks from Minnesota and Washington, and the Lakers are seeking one of those prime assets. Even as Gasol misses the next 10 days or so with a groin injury, the two teams are expected to resume talks.

Suns are playing very well. Since the injured Okafor is the player offered by the Suns, Phoenix can only get better this year.

The Suns will always be good but never great. They always stay somewhere in the middle and don't get the really good draft picks. When/if they do get them they trade them away in free agency for another old or broken guy.

Knew the Suns would revisit this trade. They are only 3.5 games out of first place behind the Clippers and they need an upgrade in the low post.

Hornicek, coach of the year winner.

I second that. Portland was expected to be in the playoffs and the Suns were expected to be in the lottery. It isn't even that close.

But, they have the upper hand not the Lakers. The Lakers are desperate to get rid of Gasol as witnessed by the trade rumors with every team including Cleveland. Gasol won't make the Suns a title contender.

Yup, nobody expected the Suns to be this good. It's been a strange year. Nobody figured the Knicks, Lakers, and Bulls to be sub .500. We figured the Cavs would be around .500.

I figured the Lakers would be sub .500. They were barely above .500 last year and have since lost Kobe, Howard and MWP.

I hope they pull this off.

sometimes though its about what the team needs-
phoenix NEEDS a post scorer.
it could make them more viable- granted- not a title contender.
but there aren't many guys in the league that can score in/near the post
getting a guy like pau would give them some balance

They have 3 picks and a ton of kids on the team already, why not make a move? what are they waiting for ? much like your cavs- you simply cannot develop 4-8 kids at the same time
go piece by piece.....
can't just totally re-make a squad on the fly

I wonder how many draft picks the Lakers will asks from the Suns? That seemed to be the problem last time around.

Gasol is a massive upgrade from Plumlee.

It may not make them title contenders but his experience will help develop a young roster. As jgb peaches, you can't expect a bunch if draft picks to be successful without veteran leadership.

And I'm sad to see him leave...

C'mon Suns! Whatcha waiting for???

It's PAU FRICKIN' GASOL!!!!!

did you just call me a peach ?

Getting Gasol is a whole lot better than getting Gay. Gasol will not change the sharing of the ball, but Gay sure will...

Didn't help himself with that dumb move.
