11:06 AM ET 02.09 | It's no secret at this point that the Suns are searching for a star to take their shockingly-good season to yet another level, and as was first reported by ESPN, they're currently considering the question of whether or not the Los Angeles Lakers' Pau Gasol is that player. But if that deal or any other doesn't happen, here's one player to watch when free agency rolls around in July: Rudy Gay. The Sacramento Kings small forward has a player option for next season worth $19.3 million, and the Suns are expected to have serious interest if he decides to opt out.

Unless Phoenix is stupid enough to pay more than $19 million, that player option will be exercised .

Gay would be an awful fit on the Suns, he's a shameless chucker.

Trade them Deng.

He is better and will probably be cheaper then Gay's 17 odd million or whatever he is owed next year. Deng would be a perfect fit for the Suns

We rarely agree, but this. And Deng might re-sign as well.

I think the Cavs have a few options to shop deng

1. Charlotte BoBCats
2. Phoenix Suns
3. Golden State

I could see possibly the Mavs as a dark horse, OKC possibly as a dark horse, Toronto possibly as a dark horse..

Noooooooooooooooo! Suns you are winning because you share the ball. Gay is a ball hog and more than likely bring the Suns down!!!! You have Bledsoe, so wait for him to repair and save some money to lock him up...

who the hell would pay Gay more next year than his 19.3 mil option.. of course he will pick it up.. he aint getting nothing near that amount in free agency

No one can make an offer to Gay unless.....and until.....he ops out.

February 9, 2014  09:10 PM ET

Bad idea. Gay can put up points, but he requires so many shots to do it that he's ultimately unproductive.

February 9, 2014  09:17 PM ET

Can't the Suns see how (relatively) successful the Raptors are now after they got rid of Gay?

February 10, 2014  03:59 AM ET

This guy is Carmello Jr. Won't ever win.

February 10, 2014  08:22 AM ET

If Rudy does opt out and the Suns do sign him I'd expect it to be in the range of 9-15M a year for 4-5 years with one or two player/team options.
Pau Gasol would be a dumb trade. Like trying to run a high-speed offense with a 35 year-old Shaq. His knees have left him at below average center speed and he's still a defensive liability.

February 10, 2014  08:23 AM ET

He's not worth trading for though, he'll only ask for more money from the owning team.

I see this guy playing for the Lakers!
