11:21 AM ET 02.09 | Tennessee football players A.J. Johnson and Danny O'Brien were arrested overnight, according to the jail log maintained by the Knox County Sheriff's office. Former player Dontavis Sapp was also listed on the sheriff's website. The site does not describe the charges against the players. A Knoxville police spokesman said the players were not arrested by KPD, but by deputies from the sheriff's office. Attempts to reach the KCSO were not immediately successful. UT issued a statement Sunday morning saying it was aware of the arrests and was gathering details. "We have very high standards and expectations within our football program at the University of Tennessee, and appropriate action will be taken," said the statement from coach Butch Jones. Johnson is a senior linebacker who opted to return to UT rather than pursue an NFL career. O'Brien is a sophomore defensive tackle from Michigan. Sapp started all 12 games as a senior in 2013.

LOL, "signed plenty of replacements", you say??? Are you saying that a 17/18 year old kid will put the Vols over the top??

Just as much or as little as they would put USCw over the top.

February 9, 2014  01:12 PM ET

Only three? They have to do much better than that to approach the SEC standards of excellence.

February 9, 2014  01:23 PM ET

Since both of the players are valued members of the team a brown sack will be donated to the Knox County Sheriffs Office and the matter swept under the rug.

Meh, lots of time for other teams to get in the mix here. I'm not worried.

But I must say, with UTk signing all those 17 and 18-year-olds, and one of these being a senior that freshmen are supposed to emulate, they certainly have to be favorites at this point.

Auburn had the lead with their recruit getting busted but UTK takes the lead with a Treble bust. Awesome stuff to follow.

When you sign 32 and backcount 6 from last year you have plenty of bodies to backfill when players do something stupid and get kicked of the team, assuming they get kicked off the team.

O'Brian is 20 years old and one of the charges was underage drinking! WTgdF. 20 years old and underage! **** ing bull ****. One of the other charges was resisting arrest. That's a no-no! Johnson was charged with buying alky for a 20 year old man and resisting arrest. The other person is a former player.

How was Tennessee allowed to sign 36 players, btw? That's like more than the only USC signed in 3 years
