05:46 PM ET 02.10 | As the NBA trade deadline rapidly approaches, teams are going to start making cold calls for superstars just to see if their current teams will be willing to part ways with them. One such superstar is Carmelo Anthony, who is expected to opt-out of his contract with the Knicks at the end of the season. Players that teams might lose tend to make the best trade chips, and few trade chips are as talented as Carmelo Anthony. But while they may lose him in the offseason, the Knicks aren't going to save face and trade him now as Marc J. Spears from Yahoo! reports there's no chance the Knicks trade Melo.

Yes, this is most unfortunate.

Trading him would make too much sense. Let him leave you high and dry. That way you can continue your ineptitude for years to come.

That would be worse than him just leaving. 'Melo will start showing his age during his next contract.

Well if the Knicks have been building around Carmelo, please try a different recipe. Tyson is fine, but the rest were the wrong recipe... Getting Monroe and an outside threat would look kind of nice....

I really don't care whether he says or goes. He did his best for us but we aren't winnng a title with him. If he wants to try something else this summer I'm not mad at him. But, he won't. He'll stay and we'll still suck.

Chandler, Felton, and Shumpert for Monroe, Jennings and Charlie V

Bad decision. Trade him now and start over. You already know you can't win w/ him and he will only want more money. Paying this guy Kobe-like money will surely kill the franchise.

You're right. This is NY. And so ego will play way more of part in this than anything. Dolan will pay him just because he can, and because he won't be able to stand having anyone be able to say they took Melo away from NY. Never mind that re-signing Melo and not opting instead to rebuild the right way is a monumentally bad idea. But that's the Dolan owned Knicks isn't it? An avalanche of continuous bad ideas.

Yup, sorry Doc! Dolan messed up the Knicks!

We owe too many picks draft picks. If we go that route Knicks won't make the playoffs for another century.

Trade him to get younger and get some picks back. He is the only player the other teams will trade for. You commit $25 million a year for him and you'll be worse than the Lakers. At least the Lakers would only have one max salary. The Knicks will continue to have 3 and Melo's would be bigger.

I'd like to believe ownership and management have a plan better than what you and I can see. It's quite surprising why Knicks are always in this kinda funk.

As much as I feel melo should stay he's got 2 go if he really wants a championship. My Knicks have suffered @ dolan's ineptitude 4 a min. Knicks have no draft picks until 2015 or 2016, so no chance 2 rebuild. Signing smith was last big contract & can't add key players like elite point guard or quality back up center.
