Euless (Texas) Trinity junior cornerback Eryon Barnett has given an oral commitment to Texas. Barnett visited Texas' junior day last weekend and wasted no time in finalizing his college choice. Oklahoma and Miami were among the schools in the running for Barnett.

its only a verbal and when he sees the canes play next season he will change his mind to THE U!!!

February 26, 2008  09:32 AM ET

they should change commit to maybe I want to play there but....

Right, 84:
"oral commitment" is really "Still thinking about it..." or "if nobody has a better offer..."

Chalk up another recruit for UT!!!! Mack was pissed that he didn't get a top 5 recruiting class!! He'll answer with a top 3 class this coming year!!!

HOOK 'EM HORNS!!

Why would he go to the U??? So he can be labeled as a thug or be a victim of violence.

And ou....so he can do well in the regular season and then lose the big game!

February 26, 2008  11:18 AM ET

bacon51....UT has had more guys arrested over the last yr then the U.that info is coming from a former aggie here in my office.he says UT is the new GANGSTER U!! GO CANES!!

February 26, 2008  12:48 PM ET

None of this means anything until signing day and if Texas has an average year or if other schools look awesome, look for some of these early commits to jump ship.

February 26, 2008  01:04 PM ET

I agree that soft verbals don't mean anything but a down payment on a scholarship, but a lot of athletes in Texas grow up watching UT, A&M. They wait for their chance to put on that uniform and seize it. Top blue-chip recruits are almost toss-ups because every college is courting them hard, but the good 4 and 3-star recruits in-state usually go with their childhood dreams. I'm sure other "prestiege" schools reap benefits from this.

Please stop the sterotyping; that statment is pure garbage.

Not really...

February 26, 2008  02:28 PM ET

Miami & FSU have earned their thug & academic reputations.

February 26, 2008  02:29 PM ET

It wasn't long ago that the Miami football team was in an all out brawl on the field with Florida International and then FSU just had a massive cheating scandal. You can't do that stuff and say everything is clean a year or two later.

nwpa...if somebody flat out cheapshots ya and u fight back it doesnt mean your a bad guy.u ever been in a fight b4?? south carolina and clemson were in a fight few yrs ago..nobody says there all thugs...give it a rest

February 26, 2008  04:07 PM ET

Bacon, that logic might serve you better if Texas had managed to, you know, actually defeat Oklahoma more than once or twice in the last eight years.

Aggie players getting arrested these days too. Your aggie friend needs to read the college station police blotter a little more often.

Final Results of last 8 years for UT & OU:
1 National Title
2 BCS Victories

every team has players arrested .thats my pt.thats why i say give the canes a break..i got arrested in college while i was playin footaball, doesnt make me a thug!!

Early recruiting? fun entertainment, but a little early to celebrate.

OU? Clearly, they blow their load in the Texas game--they have nothing left for their bowl games.

Still excited over Texas' championship season--nobody can bring me down. I mean, they did beat 'the greatest team ever assembled in the history of college sports" in title game.

Wait! Doesn't that make Texas the greatest team ever?

February 27, 2008  12:33 PM ET

according to espn when they did a poll on best college teams ever matched up against that usc team the nation voted the 01 CANES would beat them

Last 7 years for UT:
7 straight 10 win seasons, 6 of last 7 bowl game wins, 2 bcs wins - one a national title, 29 players drafted, an additional 5 active.

And why UT over OU and 'the" U - well, considering he is a corner - with Marcus Griffin a lock to be drafted this april, that will give us 8 defensive backs active in the league.

He's a DB goin to DB U ;)
