Bush skips lawsuit deposition

A civil lawsuit involving Reggie Bush took another contentious turn Monday when the former USC star did not appear for what the plaintiff's attorney said was a scheduled pretrial deposition. Brian Watkins, who is representing a man suing Bush for nearly $300,000 that he allegedly provided the running back and his family while Bush played for USC, acknowledged Bush's lawyers had written that Bush would not be present. "We basically take that as an admission of guilt," Watkins said by phone. "He had a chance to exonerate himself and he ran from it." Bush's attorney, however, said the lawsuit was without merit and that his client did not appear because he was not properly served. David Cornwell also said that attorneys for both sides had agreed that no defendants in the case would be deposed before Lloyd Lake.

well at least he did not commit perjury (LOL)

No kiddin' Jabril...seems to be the best practice

February 26, 2008  08:20 AM ET

Sad to day, but Reggie is acting like a guilty man. If true--and I stress 'If"---why would he and his parents think they can live rent-free and then didge the man who allowed it to be so? They should have known that would not go unchallenged.

February 26, 2008  08:53 AM ET

"IF" guilty? Come on in this world today you have to PROVE YOU"RE NOT GUILTY!

So that being said, Reggie, take a few more pictures with that trophy then hand it over & cough up some $$$.

February 26, 2008  09:09 AM ET

Here is the press making something out of nothing. Based on the the information given, Bush had no reason to be in court, unless I am missing something. I don't know if he did or did not take money, that will be proved hopefully.

February 26, 2008  09:13 AM ET

why couldnt they put a picture of his gfriends as.s instead of that lousy trophy?

February 26, 2008  10:09 AM ET

AWESOME

February 26, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Actions speak louder than words nothin else needs to be said LOL!

February 26, 2008  10:49 AM ET

Reggie "On the take" Bush needs to settle this with Lake to squash any attempt of him losing his heisman and turning U$C into a school that forfeits tons of games, championships etc etc.

But of course, I hope the arrogant POS kawksucker still thinks he can beat this and does testify...perjures himself...loses everything...and goes to jail.

Reggie Bush = The Chris Webber of the 21st century.

February 26, 2008  10:52 AM ET

Hey Sexton...

Do you really think Bush is innocent? Does an innocent man not show up for his own deposition because he is scared that his testimony will be shown to the NCAA and PAC 10 when he's all along said he's done nothing wrong and is innoncent?

No, an innocent man doesn't do that...but a guilty man who has a LOT TO LOSE does.

Bush is a lying cheating BUM!

February 26, 2008  11:13 AM ET

Reggie's arrogance knows no bounds. You should really find another "hero" Jabril. He doesn't give a dam_ about your beloved university. That is obvious by his actions. You and USC deserve better!

February 26, 2008  11:32 AM ET

hey Warden dont hold back tell me how ya really feel about Reggie...

February 26, 2008  11:41 AM ET

i just think that it's sad that he is willing to throw USC under the bus on this. he should be working with the Pac 10 and NCAA to save any stats and honors he earned while in college.

And consider what USC did for him with all the nationally televised games and bowl games. For him not to come clean at the expense of NCAA sanctions against USC shows the true character of this guy.

I know that Pete Carroll runs a loose ship in LA, but I can't imagine that he was in the know on all of the crap Bush was doing while there.

Reggie Bush is a selfish punk. I hope he loses every accolade earned in college.

February 26, 2008  11:44 AM ET

To The Truth: thanks, it better than Roger & Barry. Maybe a deal is being worked out to "keep" this thing from going further... who knows?

February 26, 2008  12:20 PM ET

If he was not properly served, he does not need to be in court. That is how it works. Also, when will people learn that money buys you rights above the law. Foolish middle-class.

February 26, 2008  12:24 PM ET

it would be best if those of you who are not lawyers would not comment on the 'implications' and nuances of legal procedure, and would realize that 'guilt' has nothing to do with a civil trial. it would of course also help if sportswriters understood civil procedure before writing anything about an athlete's legal affairs.

February 26, 2008  12:26 PM ET

Dude you are always on here acting like you are better educated and have more oney than everyone else, thats easy to do on the internet...maybe you are well off, maybe you did graduate from USC, but then again you could be a 50 year old unemployed p.o.s . from Minnesota, the world may never know...

There isn't a class system on here, stop acting there is.....

February 26, 2008  12:27 PM ET

not you silverblack

February 26, 2008  12:27 PM ET

Yeah...all this looks pretty bad. Law is a subtle thing though he'll probably beat this case. The longer the NCAA waits to act the harder their case becomes.

Bush could almost be like Webber except at least he won championships lol.

I don't know if it's fair to call him a punk though, if anything he made a bad decision and our justice system and twisted tendency to blame the more vulnerable and disadvantaged(instead of for example the sleezy agents that took advantage of him in the first place that then suddently saw the blinding light of justice when he signed with someone else, who then took their case to the media instead of the NCAA...or for that matter the NCAA or universities themselves an organization that makes money off teenagers) ensures that he doesn't owe up to it and may even walk away scot-free. Whew what a tangent.

Anyway my original point was that Bush is a well-spoken and decent guy otherwise so I think to call him a punk is unfair.
