MLB shying away from collision conversation

07:30 AM ET 02.12 | Tick-tock. You may have noticed that spring training is about to begin, yet baseball still has not banned home-plate collisions. Both the players and owners want to enact such a rule to protect catchers, but the issue -- somewhat like expanded replay -- is more complicated than it appears. As Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre, a member of the Playing Rules Committee, said last month, "We are writing a rule. It's not finished being written because it's not easy." An agreement is still possible, perhaps even probable, considering the desire of both sides to make a deal. But the first spring-training games are two weeks away. As camps open, coaches should be teaching the new rules, and players should be practicing new techniques. But nothing has been decided.

Yep - writing a rule to anticipate all the potential scenarios of a collision at home plate should be daunting. Because I think it's ridiculous.....

The only reason there are collisions is because catchers block the plate.... you don't want to get hurt - don't block the plate......

Puts me in mind of the AHCA . . . better make sure you anticipate everything possible before you set it in stone.

It's become the bane of law writing in general..... one thing slips through the cracks and you'd think the apocalypse had just occurred. Only time flushes out laws..... and sometimes like petulant children, they have to burn their hands on the stove (metaphorically speaking), before they'll accept something might be a bad law.....

I thought it is was ironic that the MLB network recently ran a celebratory segment showing the all top collisions.

Interesting isn't it..... toughness is expected but come hell or high water, because it's more a business now - no one wants to lose a cash cow..... just a bunch of horse ****....

They want to get rid of collisions..... get rid of tag plays..... automatic force out as if the bases were loaded...... that'll wussify the game enough.....

On his best day he still wouldn't have matched that I Pod kid's run. There's nothing to be ashamed of there.

Should we just mumble general garbage to get a thread to turn over..... this one seems like a good candidate.
