Spurrier not going away any time soon

07:34 AM ET 02.12 | On paper, Steve Spurrier isn't getting any younger, but it would be hard to tell based on his attitude. Only a few years ago, opposing teams were hammering South Carolina on the recruiting trail by planting ideas in heads of recruits that Spurrier was on the brink of retirement. But three straight seasons of 11-2 records and top-10 finishes have pretty much terminated those "negative recruiting" rumors. ... What does Spurrier say when people ask him how much longer he's going to coach? "I've been saying 'four or five more years' since I was 55. And now I'm 68 and I say 'Three or four more.' I will probably be saying that next hopefully if we're winning, recruiting well, and everybody is happy. Hopefully that's what I'll say next year. Who knows?"

The next JoePa.

Damn for just a flash I read that headline without the "not" in it. :(

He's only going away if a good tee time opens up.

I as thinking Saint Bowden, but the old-guy-that-hangs-on-too-long commonality is there.

Truer words were never spoken. Guy is a golfhound. I'd love to get in 18 with him, just for the experience.

Like him or not, the man can coach!!!

Like him or not, the man can get so P'Oed at a QB farkup that he can literally drill a hole in the ground with a tossed visor so deep, that he has to get a drilling permit from the Federal Bureau of Land Management!!!

FIFY ;-)

And we won't forget to toss visors on your grave...

Steve Orr has failed to do the Putin thing. If he wants to sell recruits on his vigor and longevity, where are the photos of him swimming the butterfly stroke in a frigid river? Riding horseback bare-chested? Appearing to be at the controls of his helicopter? Flipping a judo student on the mat? Snuggling with an adolescent snow leopard at the zoo?

The older he gets the more likeable he seems to be.

Only if he has knowledge of one of his asst. coaches committing institutionalized child rape, and then fiddles as Rome burns.

That was a cheap shot. JoeFraud was scum...absolute scum.

Lol, at the Putin comparison! Nice!

Yeah, he once coached South Carolina all the way to 2nd place in the SEC. And now that he doesn't have Marcus Lattimore they're back to middle-of-the-pack status. SCAR's AP rankings are still running off the fumes of that 1 good year.

Steve Spurrier is the most overrated coach ... of the most overrated team ... in the most over-hyped conference. He gets attention and accolades by running his mouth. His Florida teams were talented and they executed the Fun-and-Gun brilliantly, but his cockiness and jabs aimed at other coaches and programs turned winning into arrogance.

Definitely some truth to your comment, Dr...but I still think he's funny. CFB needs more characters like Spur, IMO.

He is definitely a character, no doubt at all on that. I must admit I usually cringed whenever somebody stuck a mic in front of SOS, you never knew what was gonna drop out of there. Most of is was hilarious and not really damaging.

Take him back to UF as Boom's replacement next year and let him end his career where it started. Can't write a better ending......
