07:27 AM ET 02.13 | In the case of the Yankees and spending on international players, it seems any limit will go unheeded. Sources indicate the first wave of six verbal deals all happened on one day, in late November/early December. ... For competitive reasons, this plan makes sense: other clubs and agents couldn't adjust their actions based on word of one or two big, early deals the Yankees had struck. That belief has now shifted and the industry is preparing for another wave of signings from the Bombers in the coming months. International sources are now saying they've heard a "second phase" is coming, with a significant amount of bonus commitments: presumably another coordinated signing wave. One source says he has heard $20 million mentioned as a possible target for overall Yankee bonus spending.

This is news? Teams have been throwing their money and sending top scouts out of the country for years. Isn't it the Texas Rangers who have only three American born players on their roster this year?

I guess Jeter retiring was not a big story . Who knew?

Waiting for StupidMoron to verify this.

I'm surprised he chose to go the Mariano way, mo said that it was an exhausting process and jeter has never been one that liked all the media attention/speaking to the media

I would also bet that if he alerted the Yankees that retirement after the 2014 was his intention, they would have pushed pretty hard for him to announce it prior to the season.Personally, he seems to me to be a disingenuous, polished turd, but he has been a great baseball player and I hope he has a good season on the way out. Hopefully he doesn't phone it in like Mo did late last season.

Hey REX - why arent you out plowing?

February 13, 2014  10:02 AM ET

Took the day off - just so I can relax since most deadlines are being pushed back.... will shovel the drive in the afternoon - but now - just sipping my coffee and enjoying my morning with a little music in the background.....

Congrats to SU for pulling out a great last second victory over Pitt....not bad for missing two of their big men. 24-0! Wooo Hoooo!

Also, US men's hockey team hammered Slovakia in the Olympics 7-1. Could have been even worse for Slovakia after the US scores 6 goals in the second period. They showed mercy in the 3rd period. Next up I think is Russia & Ovechkin.

Enjoy the day Lou. Don't go out and drive in that mess if you don't have to.

Probably they're working on the "who is going to replace Jeter story" and who is rumored to take over. Which is a good question ha ha.
