Udrih headed back to San Antonio?

07:34 AM ET 02.14 | This time, the choice may not be his. The defending Western Conference champion Spurs offered point guard Beno Udrih a chance to return to San Antonio this summer, but he declined, signing a free-agent deal instead with the Knicks. Now that Mike Woodson has banished Udrih and he has asked for a trade, the Spurs might be a candidate for the Slovenian point guard who has two rings from his time in San Antonio. Former Knicks general manager Scott Layden, now in the front office of San Antonio, was at Wednesday's game scouting the Knicks. Woodson sat Udrih again, despite the fact J.R. Smith declined to play because of an ill-fitting mask and Iman Shumpert didn't play the second half because of a hip flexor problem. Woodson blamed the 106-101 overtime loss to the Kings on having to go big in the second half.

Udrih is not the problem but if you want to get rid of somebody so minor than do it to make everybody happy. That would be a very big splash.

Anywhere But New York, Bro.

He only passes it to Melo 3 out of 4 trips down the court.......Melo wants 4 out of 4 or "YOU"RE OUTTA HERE!!"

Why do the Spurs even need him? They have plenty of non-athletic players as it is? They need a more active big in the middle and another 3 that can shoot and take it to the rim to open up the outside more.

Nonsense. If they were non-athletic they wouldn't be contenders every year.

February 14, 2014  10:51 AM ET

and who do the Spurs trade for him?

February 14, 2014  11:15 AM ET

Who?

I don't think they would want to.

They have Paddy Mills and Cory Joseph backing up T.Parker.....and both are playing well this season and give the Spurs more than Beno would give them......and both are at least 6 years younger than Beno.

This story would have more credibility if it'd came out of a San Antonio paper instead of it coming out of the NY Post (LOL).

This actually makes sense for the Spurs. They need to find a block of time (3-4 weeks) to rest Parker to be ready for the playoffs. Mills, Joseph and Nando have been doing well, but need one more guard.

Beno knows the Spurs system and can do well. He's only at $1.2mil, so should be able to pick him up w/o making a big move.

Problem is.....NY is SURE to want one of S.A.'s point guards in return.

And they'll probably want to do MORE than a 1 for 1 swap.....like a package that would include Shumpert for a PG plus a SF.

I just don't see this happening.

The Knicks may want to make this a bigger deal. But the Knicks aren't giving him any playing time, and Beno has already said he wants out.

I think the value for the Knicks is just saving the $$ they would pay in salary. If they want much more than that, Beno will be sitting on their bench for the rest of this year and then become a FA again.

I believe this to be the likely scenario.

If it was Kobe he would have to pass it 5 times out of 4 trips down court

Yes, agree.
