CC Sabathia: I'm still Yankees ace

09:33 AM ET 02.15 | There is no doubt in CC Sabathia's mind he remains the Yankees' ace. Asked on Friday at Steinbrenner Field whether he was still the Yankees ace, the slimmed-down Sabathia didn't hesitate. "Of course," Sabathia told The Post. "I thought that was funny. I laughed at that. I was waiting for that question." In an interview with The Post's Mike Puma earlier this month, general manager Brian Cashman hesitated to name Sabathia the team's ace. "CC is the leader of our staff, but obviously after last year, I don't know if you can consider him in that [Clayton] Kershaw category, but he is the leader of the staff," Cashman said. It's one thing to be a leader, it's quite another to be an ace. Sabathia wants to show everyone he remains an ace.

A Skinny one at that!!!!!

What is he supposed to say when asked that? He's not as good as he used to be, but 29 other teams would be happy to have him on their staff.

He'd be a good #3 on Philly, we'd love to have him.

Well, in his defense in Dominican "ace" means ballast, so he's spot on in his assessment.

well the time is running away in CC clock and he only try his best except he is not the same as he use to be back in the 2008, but he still has the tough player mentality!!

February 15, 2014  11:10 AM ET

the pitcher still can contribute for the team needs and may not be as tough as he was once but still trying his best!!

February 15, 2014  11:13 AM ET

If NY is to have a chance-
he needs to be significantly better than he was last year

Hey C.C. prove it next season.

February 15, 2014  04:56 PM ET

Cashman, let me put your mind at ease - CC is NOT in the Kershaw category....

February 15, 2014  06:56 PM ET

CC, put up and shut up. Results on the field are all I care about. You're the ace? Prove it!

This guy takes the ball every fifth day and pitches deep into every game, even when he doesn't have his best stuff. Doesn't care about his numbers, just giving his team everything he's got every time out...What more can he do than that? I'd take him and four more just like him any time!!!

Better show it this season or it's a downhill career path.
