10:32 AM ET 02.15 | The Celtics don't just want to get worse; they want to get better. According to Danny Ainge, the club isn't just trying to clear the decks to start the climb from closer to ground zero. As Thursday's NBA trade deadline approaches, the Celts are exploring all avenues that might return them to contention for a championship. "We would do a deal to make our team better and use assets to get better right away," Ainge, who is remaining back home to work the phones this weekend, said yesterday. "And we would also move veteran players to create flexibility and get draft picks. So we could go either way right now. But right now I think it's a feeling-out process." Don't misunderstand him when he talks about improvement now. He is not looking to move the Celts a few rungs up the ladder. "I'm not talking about getting three wins better," the Celts' president of basketball operations said. "I'm talking about being able to be significantly better next year."

There Is A Long And Winding Road Ahead Of You, Bro.

I think if Celtics play their cards right, someone like Kevin Love might be their prize. I mean Love, Rondo, Green, Sullinger and a decent Center (Perkins? LOL) would put them top 3 in the East easily. For that they'll need to get rid of Wallace's stupid contract somehow. Rest of the deals end after this season I think (Bass, Hump etc)

rondo and greens contracts are coming up after next year- I can see rondo staying- but I don't think they will want to pay green a similar or possibly bigger contract- for what his production is
and the roster is going to be almost completely turned over in the next 2 years
I don't see any big ticket FA wanting to go somewhere in the midst of a rebuild. he will want players already in place (for the most part)

The big picture right now is tanking to get at least a top 5 pick. You trade for a superstar right now and the top 5 is gone in a draft that has potential superstars in the making.

Its worth trading a potential top 5 pick for a established superstar imo. What I think will end up happening is the Celtics will keep rondo/green , end up with a top pick , potentially Jabari Parker and land a superstar (kevin Love) through free agency. Rondo, green, Parker, Love, and Sully is a strong lineup

I'm not sure who they can get right now. I don't think Minny is giving Love right now.

so a 6'7 center, 2 small forwards and a guard that can't shoot is a solid lineup?
lol...come on.

last time I check Kevin Love isn't 6'7. Sure rondo cant shoot but he's a proven player in the lg and he can dominate without having a consistent jump shot.

Love might not be the best option at the 5 but Im sure the Celtics can find a decent center. But you get the overall picture and where Im going with this, the Celtics will back in the top half in the league within the next couple of seasons.

I meant sully when I was talking about the center-

Love isn't going to voluntarily go to boston
he's already plays in minnesota-
thats like moving from milwaukee to buffalo
why would he make a lateral move?

QUOTE(#12):

Looks like the Celtics will rebound and rebuild their way back to contention much sooner than the Lakers will. The Celtics took step 1 and unloaded their veteran superstars KG and Pierce, acquired a few initial young pieces, and realized that they should build around Rondo and Sully. The Lakers have not even taken step 1 to move past Kobe. Their first batch of young pieces are okay - but the fact that some are from the D-League speaks for itself. They have no rising star to build around yet.

That's a pretty accurate assessment but both teams will be back. It make take a few years but you can't keep these franchises down for long. It is likely that both will win their next NBA titles before your Warriors.
