08:47 AM ET 02.16 | Eureka! I finally have found a team willing to forfeit its precious draft pick and accompanying pool money for a compensation free agent. That team is the Baltimore Orioles. While the O's have yet to actually sign one of the Frozen Five, at least they are not acting as if all of them are suffering from the Ebola virus. Well, at least not until the physical ... "I've said all along that we would take a look at it," Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said Saturday. "We do have a little bit better talent base in our organization. Our scouts have done a decent job recruiting internationally as well as domestically. With the maturity of our team, we have to take a look at it." The Orioles' priority is a starting pitcher. They would lose the 17th pick for signing right-hander Ervin Santana or Ubaldo Jimenez, both free agents. But their position players are among the best in the game, and most are between the ages of 27 and 31.

When you can get a proven player it's worth the draft pick, depending on the player and the pick of course!!!

Santana its a pitcher in my opinion very impredictable, there are seasons where he can play to his fullest for the benefit of his team, then again he may pitch his worse year as his stats are up and down
one year pitch great next year poorly with this inconssistant production from Santana,Orioles may lose more than just a simple draft!

February 16, 2014  09:22 AM ET

the Orioles aren't well aware about Santana's miscus, the guy can pitch to the higher expectations
except nobody knows when he would do it,nobody knows which Santana the Orioles are getting this 2014 season is it the good guy?is it the so-so pitcher? is it the original Santana?time will tell!!

February 16, 2014  09:29 AM ET

does the Orioles are fully aware about this impredictable pitcher?is it worthed as a player in the birds rotation?is it worthed tha draft pick?and why not wait untill july when the draft picks aren't applicable??

that's a very uneven proven player, stats aren't playing a heavy role but,,,,with this guy you never really can tell, and not the draft pick should not be given away perhaps the team should wait till july!!

the Angels lost their only secret card hided under their wrist when Mulder torn his achilles Mulder's hopes got vanished on a split of a second!!

February 16, 2014  09:40 AM ET

Halos rotation suffered their worse blow in the 2014 season, now they have very little hopes and lower expectations in their rotation!!

February 16, 2014  09:42 AM ET

the Angels are ccounting heavely on Skaggs and Santiago but should be believe in these two guys?
i mean i think they still need alot of work in the minors, honestly the team is ccounting their chickens befor hached!!

Sign them both plus Cruz. What do we have to lose?

Instead of overpaying for average pitchers, maybe they should explore the trade market and see whats out there. Use some of those young position players as bait. Matt Wieters would be the perfect guy to move, since they don't believe they can keep him anyway.

The compensation picks the Cardinals and Angels used to get Wacha and Trout have scared teams; they need to remember that most draft picks do not pan out.

It seems like the O's management have slept through the winter and now realizes spring is here with no additions to their pitching staff or everyday lineup and the panic button has been push.

I'm sorry, I'm the Orioles GM I wouldn't do this. Id trade for a younger, still under contract control picture and dangle the 17 pick.

Technically MLB teams are not allowed to trade draft picks. But like anything else, I'm sure there are ways around it.

now its too late to react, without any tough slugger in their lineup, and a lack of s ace in their rotation the Orioles are more than secured the fifth spot in their rotation!!

the free agents aren't stable as a tough pitchers plus they do suffer from a lack of run support and injuries are waiting for them!!

Two of the contenders in the division have made moves to improve their club while your O's have done nothing but complain about losing a draft pick and now have fallen down in the division with the Jays to stay out of the basement.
